Retired #Aging populations contribute non-monetary value to the economy. Because this is not counted, they are painted as a burden. Aging populations shift us from the market economy further to the old school gift economy. This scares rich people. If you can't monetize a form of labor, they can't steal it. They can also split the population in hopes of removing health care and pensions or retirements from older people. We have no shortage of work, or resources, we have rich people hoarding it all.
If we had efficient government run infrastructure, food distribution, healthcare, education and public housing, the amount of resources we needed would be halved. But they don't want us to think that a better world could exist, just this is the only possible way to run the world and this factor will make it unlivable. they are correct, under the current system the " #PopulationCollapse " is unsustainable because its inefficient as hell. Billionaire's entire existence is one of inefficiency to the greater planet. Famines don't exist because of natural disasters, we make enough food as a planet to feed 3 times the people. they are caused by political decisions. When people are paid their actual value, the baby bust will fix itself.

  2. A stunning example of regulatory failure with the scientists involved dramatically underestimating the seriousness of the situation.

Collapse of the Grand Banks cod fishery.

Or at least that is how they're telling the story here.
Anyone seen what the scientists have to say?
Were they under immense political pressure to allow fishing to continue?
An example of political interference in science?

Every #billionaire who has ever screamed about over or under population. WERE THEMSELVES THE CAUSE!
Want more babies? Pay people more.
Want less babies? Increase #education especially for women, make #healthcare free, make family planning free.

Worried there are not enough resources and #climatechange is going to kill us? The top 1% produce 29% of all #greenhousegasses , the bottom billion produce 1%. Invest in science to create a green revolution.

They are sounding the alarm about problems they created and blaming the average individual with no power as being selfish.

"#DonaldTrump is returning, artificial intelligence is maturing, the planet is warming, and the global fertility rate is collapsing.

To look at any of these stories in isolation is to miss what they collectively represent: the unsteady, unpredictable emergence of a different world. Much that we took for granted over the last 50 years — from the climate to birthrates to political institutions — is breaking down; movements and technologies that seek to upend the next 50 years are breaking through."

  11. #ElonMusk, in an interview commenting on his 11 children, noted that society’s biggest threat is, as he described it, “Population Collapse”. This seems to be a mantra of Silicon Valley tech bros & gurus, including a lot of bloggers and podcasters - it’s like the holy grail - and it is so backasswards wrong on all levels that it is simply stunning anyone believes this. I know the economics involved, but in the age of robotization and automation, this is simply BS. These idiots (who all consider themselves geniuses entitled to lead the way) NEED to maintain the status quo at all costs for their models to work and their billions to be protected; when what the planet and the human race needs is downsizing, less resource extraction, less travel, reduced emissions and fossil fuel use, less globalization and more local ecosystem development. It’d be a short-term burden for some, but #PopulationCollapse would save the planet and the human race in the long run. #Population #PopulationTrends #Demographics #Extinction

  12. At exactly the same time as doing this and totally not at all related, #Musk is continuing to panic about "#populationcollapse" despite the population obviously growing. I wonder which specific "population" he could be talking about… I'm sure he wouldn't agree with the people he's reinstating that there's some kind of "replacement" conspiracy going on, would he? 🤔

  13. This idea that's been gaining currency that "#populationcollapse" due to declining birth rates is a "problem," is beyond perverse.

#Overpopulation remains near the top of the list of world crises. It's only overshadowed by #ClimateChange which is partially the *result* of past overpopulation.

We're deeply into population #overshoot in terms of having crashed through about 5 of the 9 #planetary boundaries. So yes, there will be a population collapse and it won't just be from declining birth rates.

It's likely to be far more unpleasant than that--competition over scarce resources leading to war, mass migrations, and famines.

#dieoff is the appropriate term. And it applies to humans just as any other species that's overfilled its ecological niche.

It would be possible for Earth to support 10 billion or more people, if we lived more sustainably. But that's way easier said than done. People want what they want and they will kill and die to get it. To say nothing about the devastating impacts of global income inequality.

We should be so lucky, as to "only" face a crisis of a greying population and not enough young people. If that were the case, #automation would be able to handle any worker shortages, provided we put in place the wealth redistribution and basic income needed to offset the decline of compensated labor.

What's actually likely to happen is we'll continue to make all the wrong decisions due to the #fascist / #nationalistic political insanity that's sweeping the globe.

We're out of runway to keep making repeated bad decisions, without consequences that will be terribly disruptive to #civilization as we once knew it.
