Beyond Protest in the Second Trump Era

"For rally-goers who are motivated afterward to step up and do more, where will their energies be directed: party politics or popular power? And who will present them with that alternative, if not us?

Now is the time to build and strengthen organizations in our schools, neighborhoods, and workplaces to not only resist the agenda of the Trump administration and their outriders, but to take the initiative and pull people toward long-term organizing efforts. There are three ways we can do this, and all of them are necessary:

1. Maintain protest mobilizations.
2. Criticize the right and put forward alternative ideas more compelling than what liberals and the official left are offering.
3. Pull people who are mobilized for protest into long-term organizing efforts.

Another #political #report from the country called #sweden. The #descent into full on #fascism is an agonizing and gut wrenching reality. A #gestapo inspired law that could force all citizens to report any suspected #illegal #migrants to #authorities is about to be approved by the #government. The conversation in media is not about the validity or moral wrongness of such a law instead it focuses on how it could be implemented. Big-ish #manifestations and #protests are happening, but nothing at the scale where #popularPower could challenge the government and stop them from doing this. Earlier this month a professor and his family publicly left the country becuase of the blatant #racism that is spewed in the news and in the media at large, sweden is #notSafe. As a very minor actor in social struggles, I feel like I stand on the sidelines robbed of all agency. I feel so horrible about everything. #fuckSweden #noBorder #depressing #fascism
