  1. Have you heard about the #oilspill into Poole Harbour from the Wytch Farm oil field in #Dorset? #PooleHarbour is an environmentally sensitive region and the second largest natural #harbour in the world (behind Sydney).

  2. Gutted that this has happened just along the coast. Perenco have questions to answer; an oilfield located next to such a haven for wildlife should build in multiple levels of safety to stop accidents from ever happening.

We consider ourselves -as a race - technically advanced, so instead of ploughing money into pointless self-driving cars, let's focus on cleaning up our act & living in harmony with nature, not wrecking it with pollutants at every turn.

  3. You can read in #Hansard, the unease in 1984 when the #Tories under #Thatcher flogged #WytchFarm in #PooleHarbour. They knew it was a national asset and showed a distinct lack of care regarding the conservation of the area of outstanding natural beauty then.

It was considered to be worth between £200,000,000 and £400,000,000 at that point.

#Conservatives haven’t conserved anything beyond statues, FPTP and wealth for a very long time.

  4. #Brownsea island shouldn’t have brown sea contaminated with oil lapping it’s shoreline. It’s a magical haven. Complex ecosystems and rare species live there.

Given its scientific status and world renown in scouting and guiding circles, who were the politicians who signed off against the risk of pumping #oil from nearby Wytch Farm, #PooleHarbour in the first place? #Tories.

  5. If I could have joined the protest at #PooleHarbour today, I would have done (but I’m over 200 miles away). Great to see #XR (big thumbs up for #Wimborne group from my home town), #BCP councillors and residents turning out in force to hold oil company #Perenco to account for leaking 200 barrels of oil and who knows what else into a site of outstanding natural beauty and specific scientific interest.

  6. The problem I have with this statement from #Perenco about leaking 200 barrels of oil/liquid into #PooleHarbour is that it’s not an apology for a gross negligence at a site of special scientific natural interest...it’s just PR speak for ‘nothing to see here’.

  7. I couldn’t find an acknowledgment or apology on #Perenco ‘s website for leaking 200 barrels of oil/liquid into #PooleHarbour today...just this sales pitch about how good the black stuff is that comes out of Wytch Farm...that on closer inspection has a get out of jail clause saying it’s not worth the paper it’s written on.

  8. I see all the authorities and the oil company involved - #Perenco have swung into ‘let’s play this down mode’ about 200 barrels of oil/liquid leaking into #PooleHarbour.

I’d like to hear a little more about:

    A) How this was allowed to happen at a site of special natural scientific interest
    B) A grovelling, on knees apology
    C) Resignations of those who failed to have proper oversight
    D) A huge fine - one that properly reflects the true value of the nature that will suffer/was put at risk

  9. #PooleHarbour was made a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 2019, meaning stronger protection is given to the wildlife in the area. It is the first SSSI specifically to include subtidal areas, which will protect the feeding areas of internationally important tern populations.’

When ‘stronger protection’ just turns out to be warm words when #oil companies are concerned.
