"Pomona is setting an incredibly dangerous precedent surrounding freedom of speech on campus. The college’s willingness to suspend and ban students expressing solidarity with Palestine, without presenting any evidence or allowing due process, is perilous to the future of free speech and freedom of protest at these colleges. Pomona’s ban on The Outback’s co-Editor-in-Chief, threat of sanctions against Claremont Undercurrents, and intimidation of a The Scripps Voice reporter are active attempts by Pomona administration to quell student voices and ultimately suppress pro-Palestinian student activism on campus."

From a hostile source, but a look at what went down today at the Claremont Colleges:
"Streams of protesters from different campuses convened at the intersection of 6th Street and N. College Ave., forming a group of several hundred.
"Students then marched south to Carnegie Hall, flooding in through the front entrance. Two administrators briefly attempted to block the doors and ID scanner, but were overwhelmed by the mass of protesters.
"Inside, students chanted while organizers handed out pamphlets. Lead organizers commandeered multiple classrooms to lead 'teach-in' sessions for participants.
"Photos from inside the building show graffiti reading 'INTIFADA,' the Arabic word for 'uprising' or 'rebellion,' spray painted on walls, inside the elevators, and over the carpeting. Protesters also cut electrical cords inside classrooms, sliced a projector screen, and spray-painted over a bust of William Johnson, a former Pomona trustee."

Pomona College sent the following email out today.
What's surprising is not that it is dishonest, manipulative, fatuous, racist, Zionist, or manages to avoid mention of seven months of genocide. What's surprising is that this is the best that a school that claims itself as one of the elite institutions of higher learning in the country can come up with. I'm embarrassed for them.

Claremont FJP Statement on Student Encampment at Pomona
As the Israeli military invades Rafah and continues its genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, Claremont students have set up an encampment on Pomona’s Marston Quad and are demanding that Pomona College cease its support of that genocide. Pomona College’s faculty and students have each voted overwhelmingly for divestment – the Pomona College board and President Gabi Starr must now commit to following through on the ethical, anti-genocide actions the Pomona community has called for. The students' principled protests are a response to the Pomona administration's failure to honor these student and faculty calls for disclosure and for a commitment to and process of divestment. Any disruption to campus activity is a result of the Pomona administration’s refusal to heed these calls from students and faculty.
The Claremont Faculty for Justice in Palestine reiterates our stance in support of both student activism and Palestinian liberation.
We reiterate our support for students’ actions of civil disobedience in protest of genocide and apartheid, including encampments, across the globe and especially in Claremont.
We reiterate our demand that campus administrations honor their commitments to freedom of political expression and keep their students, faculty, and staff safe from arrest and assault by militarized police.
We condemn any campus administration that chooses to bring in law enforcement rather than heed the campus community’s call to refuse complicity in genocide.
We reiterate our call for divestment, a call applicable to every one of the Claremont Colleges, but one that begins with Pomona because it holds the largest endowment among the Claremont Colleges.
We reiterate our call for a boycott of institutions complicit in the denial of Palestinian rights, beginning with Pitzer College Council’s vote to endorse an academic boycott of those institutions.
We stand in solidarity with students as they put themselves on the line for Palestinian liberation.
We stand in solidarity with Palestine.

At 5am Monday, May 6th, 7C students from Pomona Divest from Apartheid set up their second Palestine Solidarity Encampment. This is after Pomona College arrested 20 students and forcibly removed the mock apartheid wall at the first solidarity encampment in April.
As the IOF begins the siege and bombardment of Rafah, students stand steadfast in their demands for divestment and solidarity with Palestine.
We ask all students, faculty, and community members to show up in support!
