I wrote a new piece of music! This time is called Chasing Auroras and it is an atmospheric piece meant for background and relaxation. It is featuring very prominently the sounds produced by the #Crumar #BIT99 #polysynth. I hope you'll like it! #music #indiemusic #mastoart #mastomusic #newmusic https://soundcloud.com/user-375194295/chasing-auroras?in=user-375194295/sets/reminescence

I tried to do some sound design on the #Crumar #Bit99 and got some interesting string patches with long attack and release. I tried to improvise some chords on a dorian-like context with the #Arturia Drumbrute Impact drum machine. The result is creamy and atmospheric, I hope you'll enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMGrjNyKKN8 #indiemusic #polysynth #analog #mastoart

I drove for 500km to pick it up, but it was well worth. Look at this beautiful analog Italian #polysynth 😍 A #Crumar #Bit99. With 6 voices, it is capable of beautiful warm pads and punchy bass sounds. I utterly love it. It is relatively obscure, but my gosh what SOUND you can get from it! The filters are just amazing! Made in Castelfidardo! #synth

I implemented the PWM modulation on my SID-based synthesizer: it's very cool. I tweaked a little some filter swing effects that really bring life to patches. With an external chorus the effect is very nice. I really like the Polysynth-like patches, in my opinion they are gorgeous. Here's an example, with the Folia chords. #retrocomputing #synth #music #polysynth

There is some progress on the software side of the DIY polysynth. Check it out!

Another update on the polysynth. I printed spacers for the boards and some brackets for the voice cards. Also the jacks are fixed to the casing. Next is the control board. Looks like it’s hard to find some transparent knobs for the rotary encoders so I‘m printing them myself. #synthdiy #synth #analog #acrylic #polysynth

I made quite some progress last night and I think the case turned out great. Next is to 3d print some parts to hold the polysynth inside #synthdiy #synth #analog #acrylic #polysynth
-
I‘m pretty excited about the acrylic parts that I ordered for the polysynth. Sizes and holes seem quite precise. I hope I‘m not messing it up while drilling and glueing it 😅 #synthdiy #synth #analog #acrylic #polysynth
-
I also started to create some design files for the casing. The idea is to have a transparent acrylic case and you can see the beautiful electronics inside. It's the first time I'm trying to glue acrylic, let's see how this turns out! 2/2

At last, I found some time and motivation to make progress on the 8-voice polysynth. I finished the hardware for the input section (the two small boards on the right). It's basically 4 CV inputs and an analog-to-digital converter and an external audio input which can be mixed in. Next is to fiddle with the software and get the ADC working. I'm curious if the 16 Mhz Arduino is powerful enough to handle the inputs 1/2. #synthdiy #synth #analog #polysynth #arduino

Now I like the Pro-800 as much as the next guy who wants to do analogue polysynth on a budget, but my fake CS-80 Vangelisisms were lacking just a certain something.
Postie brought me TC Electronic's cheap Juno chorus clone, and after a single alteration to the dip switches, this gives exactly that tone. Creamy!
-
This is the final hardware piece for my polysynth! It's an input board with 4 CV signals for parameter modulation and an external audio source which can be mixed in. There are pots for levels and a quad ADC which is connected via i2c to the main board of the #synth #synthesizer #synth #polysynth #analog #polyphonic @synthdiy

I’ve been working on the case for my next synth project, this should actually work with the next two with a few changes to knob and switch positions.
I’ve been getting the hang of fusion 360, bringing in step files from KiCAD and getting everything lined up has been invaluable.

Might be picking up an Ultranova tomorrow! Not really my style at first glance, interface wise, but ployphony and one-knob-per-function interfaces are not very common in my price range (not high, lol).
What it does have going for it is a full size midi DIN input, and I made sure a MIDI implementation chart was available, so there's nothing stopping me from building a custom controller that will give me more immediate control in the future, should I desire it.
And to think I almost considered selling my Electribe... now I'm going to have to reconsider the layout of my office instead 😬

Oh, there is progress regarding the polysynth. This is the control board with 16 rotary encoders and switches for it. On the top is some space for a 16x2 LCD display. The best part is that it can also be used as CC MIDI controller when adding some microcontroller. #synthesizers #synthdiy @synthdiy #polysynth #polyphonic #midi #pcb #kicad

Well, #adhd did it again. Right now my Interest List is:
- #muvco
- assemble mixer pcb that came back last week
- read #midi files
- two voices
- think about low-part-count implementation idea for #polysynth #synthdiy
- work on #geometricalgebra problem sets (from good-so-far book: https://geometricalgebra.org/)
- take birthday present manim course (https://www.manim.community/, but more than basics)
- read Empire of the #Ants and #DawnOfEverythingThat on top of a real job and a #honeydew

GEEKS, what is the best VPN you can recommend?
In exchange I offer you this geeky knowledge: if you're after a #Roland #polysynth buy a JX-3P instead of a #Juno whatever because you get two lovely #DCOs and a really stupid polyphonic #sequencer that's got a +5V gate #trigger input.
