  1. USA bans flammable fabrics in children's sleepwear (16 CFR 1615-1616). Polyester is the common substitute. Yet washing synthetic fabric produces 35% of all microplastic pollution. Choi et al. found in 2021 that washing and drying knit polyester released 4 to 5 times as much as woven.
