  1. Roman Statesman Cicero and His Complex Admiration for Greece

Applause mixed with skepticism Despite Cicero’s admiration for the Greeks and their culture, there is also skepticism regarding…

  2. /𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙤/

    Trajes negros, rostros neutros.
    No parecían técnicos: parecían examinadores.

  3. The Sound of the Carnyx

Context: The Carnyx was a Celtic instrument used for ~ 400 years between 200 BCE to 200 CE. A large S shaped wind instrument, with the head decorated and formed into a boars. According to the Greek historian Polybius (~206-126BC) accounts it was at least used during warfare:

There were countless trumpeters and horn blowers and since the whole army was shouting its war cries at the same time there was such a confused sound that the noise seemed to come not only from the trumpeters and the soldiers but also from the countryside which was joining in the echo.

  4. Given that it's based on an urban legend about a mysterious arcade game that makes people psychotic, you'd expect Collin Armstrong's novel "Polybius" to be a horror story. But as he says in this exclusive interview, it's a coming-of-age one as well.

  5. Is this what having an aneurysm is like? I eschewed #skyrim to see if I could advance a few more levels in #polybius which I did but I have no idea how.

  6. YouTube user "Ahoy" also known as Stuart Brown posts terrific independently researched videos which are eminently watchable.

If you haven't watched his video on "Four-Byte Burger" which was origionally created by Jack Haeger back in 1985 then you're missing out.

It should be noted that Stuart Brown also creates his own music for each video too.

Seriously, Stuart Brown should be hired as a detective for his investigative rigour.

  8. CW: Sarcastic musings on the end of the world

On the bright side, if #AI keeps up like this, we'll soon be able to ask it to create a working version of #Polybius (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polybius) and all be driven insane 👍 or a #BLIT (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BLIT_(sh). They're both fine options.

  9. A quiet day at home. I’m watching Martin Scorsese’s underrated classic “Goncherov.” The oldest is playing an emulated game of Polybius while the youngest reads a Barenstein Bears book.

  10. Today I watched a couple of YT videos about #Polybius. The best part of it was the attempted pronunciation of "Sinneslöschen".

Now excuse me, but after having written this I feel the urge to go play #Polybius
