Tucker Carlson asking when Howard Lutnick was picked to run the transition, then pivoting to the Butler shooting, is not a question , it's an accusation wearing a question mark. The Lutnick timing is the setup; the payoff is implying the assassination attempt and the investigation that followed.

Paul Krugman offers a surprising take on a Trump campaign ad rerun, suggesting it may actually aid Democrats by keeping Trump front and center in voters minds while exposing the irony in its expel warmongers slogan amid ongoing foreign policy debates. The ad revives themes from 2024 that could backfire on Republicans by reminding the public of past chaos and unfulfilled promises, providing fresh ammunition for progressive critiques of conservative messaging. This analysis reveals how even self serving political spots can highlight contradictions that benefit the opposition if framed effectively. Trump’s Iran‑War Folly and the GOP’s Midterm Maneuvering: Why Voters Should Avoid the Party of Big Oil
by Winston Wendell President Donald Trump has intensified economic pressure on Iran with new sanctions and blockades, claiming it will strengthen the United States. Instead, record diesel prices are fueling backlash from farm and energy interests, pushing Republican lawmakers from rural states to consider a diesel export ban that cuts against his own policy. The Ancient Art of Buying Silence: How Rulers Have Always Turned Critics into Courtiers by Lawson Akhigbe
Political co-optation is not a Nigerian invention. It is one of the oldest and most elegant tools in the authoritarian toolkit far more refined than the crude business of jailing poets or shooting journalists. Why break a man’s spirit when you can simply rent it? Offer him a title, a salary, a motorcade, and watch the moral thunder turn into polite applause. History is littered with the wreckage of principles that met a well-timed appointment. -

The piece likely analyzes Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's address or policies, highlighting the challenges of maintaining social cohesion in a diverse society where economic inequality can exacerbate historical tensions. It serves as a case study in how modern political leadership navigates the intersection of economic policy and social unity in multi-ethnic states.

More Powers, Fewer Rules: The New World Order of 2026
The old world order is weakening, but nothing stable has replaced it.
The United States remains the most powerful country overall, yet it can no longer control every crisis, isolate every rival or convince every partner to follow its priorities. China has become indispensable to global manufacturing and strategic supply chains. India is growing into a major economic and diplomatic force. Russia continues to exercise military and nuclear power beyond the size of its economy. Meanwhile, countries such as Türkiye, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia are learning that they do not always need to choose one permanent side.
Power is spreading.
The rules governing that power are weakening.
That contradiction defines the world of 2026.
This is not simply a story about the United States declining or China rising. It is about what happens when several countries become powerful enough to resist one another, but none becomes responsible or trusted enough to preserve global order.
The argument in brief: The world is already becoming multipolar. The United States remains the strongest overall power, but China, India, Russia, Europe and regional powers now influence different parts of the global system. The danger is that military power, economic influence and strategic resources are becoming more widely distributed while international law, diplomacy and institutions are becoming less effective.
1. Multipolarity Does Not Automatically Mean Balance
A multipolar world is one in which several countries or centres of power can influence major international outcomes.
That may sound fairer than a world dominated by one superpower. More countries gain a voice. Developing economies receive greater influence. Regional powers gain the ability to defend their interests instead of simply accepting decisions made elsewhere.
But more power centres do not automatically create more stability.
Imagine a room with one person controlling everything. That arrangement may be unfair, but everyone knows where authority lies. Now imagine ten powerful people entering the room, each with different interests, alliances, weapons and definitions of justice.
The room has become more representative.
It has also become more dangerous.
A functioning international order needs more than powerful countries. It needs rules those countries are willing to follow, institutions they consider legitimate and consequences that apply even when the country breaking the rules is rich, influential or militarily strong.
The present world has more power centres, but it does not yet have a shared agreement about how those powers should behave.
Creator: Ted Eyta2. America Is Still First, but It Is No Longer Alone
Predictions about the sudden collapse of American power are exaggerated.
The US dollar still accounted for 57.13 percent of allocated global foreign-exchange reserves in the first quarter of 2026. The euro accounted for 20.03 percent, while the Chinese renminbi represented only 1.99 percent. The dollar’s position has gradually weakened over several decades, but there is still no single currency close to replacing it.
The United States also remains central to global finance, military alliances, advanced technology, higher education and international security.
Yet dominance is no longer the same as control.
Washington cannot determine the outcome of every war. It cannot completely prevent countries from trading with sanctioned rivals. It cannot guarantee that allies will support every American decision. It cannot stop alternative financial arrangements, strategic partnerships and regional organisations from developing.
The world is not post-American.
It is simply less exclusively American.
That difference matters. The United States still sits at the centre of the system, but more countries now possess enough economic, military or diplomatic weight to negotiate, delay, resist or play competing powers against one another.
Creator: QuoteInspector.com3. China Does Not Need to Replace America to Change the World
China’s power is often discussed through the size of its economy or military. Its deeper influence comes from its position inside global supply chains.
Modern economies depend on copper, lithium, graphite, rare earth elements and other strategic materials used in electrical grids, batteries, defence systems, data centres, vehicles, satellites and consumer technology.
The International Energy Agency reported in July 2026 that China accounted for more than 90 percent of the growth in global copper-smelting capacity since 2005. China’s share of global copper-smelting capacity increased from approximately 15 percent to 50 percent by 2025.
That is geopolitical power.
A country does not need to control every mine if it controls the processing stage that turns raw material into something the rest of the world can actually use.
This is one reason the emerging order cannot be understood as a simple contest between two flags. The United States may dominate finance and alliances. China may dominate parts of manufacturing and mineral processing. Europe may shape regulations. Gulf states may influence energy markets. India may provide growth, labour, technology and an increasingly independent diplomatic voice.
Power is becoming specialised.
Different countries control different parts of the system, which makes cooperation necessary even when political trust is disappearing.
Photo by Hao Liang on Pexels.com4. India and the New Politics of Refusing to Choose
The rise of India represents another major change.
The IMF’s July 2026 outlook projected Indian growth at 6.4 percent in 2026, compared with 4.6 percent for China. These are forecasts rather than guarantees, but they illustrate India’s growing economic weight.
India maintains relationships with the United States, Europe, Russia, the Gulf and other developing countries. It participates in Western-backed partnerships while continuing to protect its own strategic independence.
Other states are adopting similar approaches.
They may cooperate with Washington on security, trade with Beijing, buy energy from another partner and support reform of institutions traditionally dominated by Western governments.
This does not necessarily mean they are anti-Western or pro-Chinese.
It means they are pro-option.
The defining diplomatic skill of the multipolar world may not be loyalty. It may be the ability to maintain relationships with competing powers without becoming fully dependent on any of them.
That gives middle powers greater freedom, but it also makes alliances less predictable.
Photo by Ethan Sarkar on Pexels.com5. The Dollar Is Losing Exclusivity, Not Dominance
Social media often presents de-dollarisation as an approaching financial revolution in which the dollar suddenly collapses and another currency replaces it.
The official data tells a slower and less dramatic story.
The dollar remains the leading reserve currency by a large margin. The renminbi’s share of allocated reserves remains below 2 percent. Other currencies are gaining space, and central banks are diversifying, but no alternative currently offers the same combination of liquidity, convertibility, trusted markets and widely available financial assets.
The likely future is not the immediate death of the dollar.
It is a world in which the dollar remains dominant but becomes less exclusive.
Countries will increasingly use local currencies for some trade, hold more diversified reserves and build payment systems that reduce their exposure to American financial pressure. But the development of alternatives will probably happen gradually rather than through one dramatic collapse.
This pattern appears throughout the new global order.
The old powers are not disappearing.
They are being surrounded by additional choices.
Photo by Burst on Pexels.com6. Globalization Is Becoming a Security Problem
The world economy is still deeply connected, but governments no longer view interdependence as purely beneficial.
A foreign supplier may be cheaper, but what happens if exports are restricted?
A distant factory may be efficient, but what happens during war?
An international payment system may be convenient, but what happens when access becomes a political weapon?
A shipping route may appear reliable, but what happens when conflict interrupts it?
Economic policy is increasingly shaped by national security. Governments are thinking about semiconductors, energy routes, food supplies, data infrastructure, shipping, defence manufacturing and strategic minerals.
The IMF’s July 2026 update projected global growth of 3.0 percent in 2026, down from an average of 3.5 percent across 2024 and 2025. It also projected world trade-volume growth to slow from 5 percent in 2025 to 3.5 percent in 2026. The IMF identified war, tariffs, trade rerouting, energy prices and technology investment as major forces shaping the outlook.
Globalization is not ending.
It is being reorganised around fear.
Businesses and governments are no longer asking only where production is cheapest. They are asking which supplier can still be trusted during a crisis.
Efficiency is slowly giving way to resilience, duplication and strategic control.
Photo by Bhabin Tamang on Pexels.com7. The Evidence of Disorder Is Already Visible
A stable multipolar system should create restraint. Powerful countries would understand the costs of direct conflict and develop rules for managing competition.
That is not what the current evidence shows.
UCDP recorded 65 state-based armed conflicts during 2025, the highest number since its records began in 1946.
Eight of those were interstate conflicts, also the highest number in the dataset. Thirteen reached the level of war, meaning they caused at least 1,000 battle-related deaths during the year. UCDP estimated that approximately 244,600 people were killed in organised violence during 2025.
These are not merely statistics.
Every number represents a family that lost someone, a community forced to flee or a generation growing up around violence.
At the end of 2025, approximately 117.8 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide because of persecution, war, violence, human-rights violations or events seriously disturbing public order.
Power may be becoming more evenly distributed between states.
Human suffering is also becoming more widely distributed.
Source: UNHCR Global Trends 2025, 11 June 20268. The World Is Spending More on Preparing for War
Global military expenditure reached $2.887 trillion in 2025, marking the eleventh consecutive annual increase. The United States, China and Russia together accounted for 51 percent of global military spending.
Every government can explain its spending.
One country is responding to a rival. Another is modernising outdated equipment. Another is defending its borders. Another is supporting allies. Another is preparing for threats that may emerge in the future.
From inside each country, the decision may appear defensive.
From outside, it may appear threatening.
That creates a cycle in which one country’s attempt to feel safer makes another country feel less secure. The second country increases its military strength, which convinces the first that its fears were justified.
Nobody believes they started the arms race.
Everybody participates in it.
Photo by Art Guzman on Pexels.com9. Nuclear Multipolarity Is Especially Dangerous
The global nuclear system is also becoming more complex.
SIPRI estimated that the world possessed 12,187 nuclear warheads in January 2026. Approximately 9,745 were held in military stockpiles for potential use, while between 2,100 and 2,200 deployed warheads remained on high operational alert. All nine nuclear-armed states continued modernizing their arsenals during 2025.
The United States and Russia still possess most of the world’s usable nuclear warheads, but other arsenals are growing or becoming more sophisticated.
A multipolar nuclear system creates more relationships that can fail.
There are more rivalries, more military doctrines, more command structures and more possible misunderstandings. A warning interpreted correctly by one rival may be misunderstood by another. A regional confrontation can involve allies, nuclear powers and competing security guarantees.
Nuclear weapons may discourage some forms of direct attack.
They also ensure that one serious miscalculation can become a catastrophe.

The world does not lack organisations.
It has the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, regional unions, security alliances, development banks and diplomatic forums.
The problem is that many of these institutions were created for a different distribution of power.
Major countries demand reform but disagree about what reform should mean. Governments call for international law while applying it selectively. States condemn coercion when used against them but justify it when directed at their rivals.
This hypocrisy is not limited to one country, alliance or political system.
It is structural.
An international order survives only when powerful countries believe that following the rules is more valuable than breaking them. When enforcement depends entirely on who committed the violation and who their allies are, law begins to look like another instrument of power.
The world still has institutions.
What it increasingly lacks is shared confidence in their fairness.

One possibility is managed multipolarity.
Major powers accept that none can dominate everything. They reform international institutions, restore arms-control negotiations and create rules for cyberwarfare, artificial intelligence, strategic minerals, trade and space. Competition continues, but it is contained.
The second possibility is competitive blocs.
The world divides into overlapping economic and security systems. Supply chains, financial platforms, technology standards and military partnerships become increasingly separate. Countries face pressure to choose sides, even when they would prefer relationships with both.
The third possibility is fragmented disorder.
No country becomes strong enough to preserve order, but several remain powerful enough to block one another. Institutions become paralysed, regional conflicts multiply and smaller countries become battlegrounds for larger rivalries.
The world contains elements of all three.
Cooperation continues, but so does fragmentation. Trade continues, but governments are building barriers. Alliances remain important, but their reliability is questioned. International institutions still exist, but they often struggle most during the crises for which they were created.

The debate is no longer about whether a multipolar world will emerge.
It already has.
The United States remains the strongest overall power, but it no longer stands alone. China controls strategic parts of global production. India is becoming harder to ignore. Russia retains military and nuclear influence. Europe shapes markets through regulation. Regional powers are gaining room to negotiate between competing centres.
This could produce a fairer system.
More countries could gain influence. Institutions could become more representative. Developing economies could receive a stronger voice. No single power would be able to impose its priorities without resistance.
But that future requires responsibility.
Powerful countries cannot demand sovereignty while rejecting accountability. They cannot demand international influence while treating rules as optional. They cannot condemn aggression from rivals while excusing it from allies.
The danger is not that power is spreading.
The danger is that responsibility is not spreading with it.
The world is becoming too interconnected for isolation, too competitive for trust and too heavily armed for carelessness.
We are moving toward a multipolar world.
Whether it becomes a fairer international order or a deeper form of global disorder will depend on whether powerful states can share influence without abandoning restraint.
Right now, power is multiplying faster than the rules needed to control it.
That is what makes this moment dangerous.
