Current Status in Pokémon LeafGreen

I went back to the Sevii Islands and spent quite a bit of time on One Island leveling up my team. Not enough time, clearly, because the team is pretty lopsided.

I am also leveling up my Dragonair to try to get them to evolve into a Dragonite.

And leveling up my core team.

That said, last night I said screw it and just went with who I had and took the boat over to Seven Island. Probably a bad idea, but we'll see as I work my way through!

Let's do this thing and beef up my team in the process so I can, eventually, do a second round of battles versus all of the Gym Leaders.

In version of Pokémon: LeafGreen and FireRed, Deoxys was obtainable if you went to a special, NIntendo sponsored event and get an AuroraTicket. But, that game came out 20 years ago...so, folks playing it now, have no access to this on a GBA.

However, when you play the Nintendo Switch version, the game gives you an AuroraTicket when you enter the Hall of Fame post-Elite Four by default.

Meaning? I got myself a Deoxys over the weekend!

Current Status in Pokémon LeafGreen

I did it. I beat Horus and the Elite Four, finally! I was able to defeat the Elite Four on my second attempt, after doing a little more grinding to level up my team. The average 'Mon was around Level 52 with my Pidgeot at level 62. What a heroic effort.

Now, I'm chilling on the Sevii Islands. I'm looking for some kind of gemstone to help some machines get up and running. But that Team Rocket just doesn't know how to let it quit!

This plot wasn't in the original game, so this is will be fun. Also, I got my National Dex and some non-Gen 1 Pokémon have been showing up as I've been traveling.

I also need to find Mewtwo at some point...but that will come after I finish my Sevii Island journey.

Current Status in Pokémon LeafGreen

Finished all the gyms and caught Zapdos. I now have all three of the Legendary Birds of Kanto.

Now time to head to the Elite Four. Except, I definitely need to beef up my team. My team is comprised of mostly level 45-47 Pokémon. They need to be stronger or they are going to get decimated against the Elite Four.

So, maybe I'll find some folks who want rematches and fly around Kanto doing that to beef up my team.

Current Status in Pokémon LeafGreen

Followed Bill along to the Sevii Islands. I was able to find a few new Pokémon including heading to Mount Ember to finally catch Moltres.

It was a fun little detour where I had some great battles with various bikers who really wanted to control the third island.

Love the naming convention of the islands...One, Two, and Three.

Anyway, finished up my time on the Sevii Islands and need to get ready to battle against the final Gym Leader.

I wonder who that may be...

Current status in Pokémon LeafGreen.

Another update. Instead of going to the abandoned Power Plant, I decided to head down to Seafoam Islands and try my luck. After...uhm, a handful of soft resets as I KO'd them, I caught Articuno!

I also was able to nearly solo Blaine with my Gyarados. So, that was fun.

Bill approached me about some island where he needed some help, I'll take him up on that in a little bit. I think I need to beef up my mainline team a bit first, though.

Six badges in now. I actually did Sabrina's gym before Koga. Which I'm surprised I did.

Ended up moving backwards and found my way back on Route 10...in the water.

Caught quite a few 'Mon at this point, but not quite halfway there. Need to get some 'Mons I already caught evolved.

I found my way to the Power Plant...not sure if I should go in. Pretty sure there's a legendary that is going to decimate me if I do.

But may do it anyway.

Current status in Pokémon LeafGreen.

Four badges in. I just freed Marowak from the mortal coil after getting my Silph Scope and defeating Team Rocket in Celadon. I rolled over to Saffron City now with 4 badges and a Silph Scope in my possession and BAM, the town is crawling with Rocket Grunts.

Time to go free the folks at Silph HQ.

But first, I beat the mini-fighting gym and got myself a Hitmonlee. Named it Tony Jaa.

Anyway, let's do this thing!

Okay, I've been playing quite a bit of Pokémon LeafGreen of late. A lot of it.

It's so much fun.

A few things as my thoughts now that I'm about 3 gyms into it.

1. There's a lot I remember from Kanto from playing Blue and Let's Go Pikachu.
2. There's a lot I forgot about Kanto, despite playing through it a few times in both of the aforementioned games.
3. Not having automatic exp share among all my Pokémon team is killing me and having to go back to putting a weak one up front, then swapping to get them more exp has been such a ride. Haven't done that in so long.
4. I love my Ivysaur, part of me wishes I didn't nickname her Bulba, but it's too late now. And I don't want to change it. We're partners for life now.
5. I still play like I have always played - offense heavy with not a lot of stat based moves. I don't think I'll ever change my playstyle and, since I am not playing competitively, I don't think it matters.
6. Playing a GBA game on my TV is cool. I know I could do it with the original cart and a Gameboy Player for the Gamecube, stop reminding me that I gave mine away like 18 years ago.
