  1. My final team before the E4 challenge (with 2 unused Rare Candies). As usual Espeon carrying hard.

    From top to bottom:
    Espeon
    Typhlosion
    Gyarados
    Celebi
    Sudowoodo
    Pidgeotto

I've also created 2 text documents with notes about item and move names. One is organized by in-game name the other is organized by actual names. Hopefully the Drive links work correctly.

DISCLAIMER: It's possible I've messed stuff up and I also didn't start doing this until like halfway through the game so I definitely missed stuff. A few items have the same names and I'll leave notes about that.

  2. Yeah so it turns out you can't beat the game. I tried twice and the game glitches and crashes as soon as Lance admits defeat during the battle. My ideas for workarounds would be either dumping the save and beating it on a legit copy or using walk through wall cheats. The problem is that both of these workarounds aren't going to mesh well with the fact that it's a multicart.

I might try a third time and beat him with a different Pokemon or try something different but for now it looks like I'm not going to be able to see Guangdong which is a shame.

  3. I had to look up a video playthrough on YouTube just so I knew which options I would be choosing. Similar to the Radio quiz, could you imagine if this was your first exposure to Gen 2?

  4. In the normal games, Pokemon make noises. In the anime, Pokemon say their own names.

But in this translation, Pokemon speak in anagrams.

Disclaimer: Not all Pokemon speak in anagrams.

  5. So many food names. There are two Nut items (Berry & Elixer) and one Nut attack (Low Kick).

You can now pick Cider off of trees (MysteryBerry) and Bran (Amulet Coin) gets you trouble money.

It really sounds like I'm extorting people for real now haha.

  7. Drugs and fucks.

Continuing the weird naming tradition, "DRUG" is actually the NeverMeltIce.

The "fuck you" was like a jumpscare though, I did not expect it at all.

  8. Boulders give you attitude in this translation. I guess it's deserved since you physically push them around all you want haha.

  9. So I keep running into this issue. Fire type attacks always critical hit on Water types. I don't know if it was intentional (a weird thing to be intentional). I honestly can't tell if this is just some horrifically misleading "translation" at this point. This is going to be the last time I point this out though.

  10. We return to our regularly scheduled programing.

The held items just... don't make sense. Guess which one this is. Guess. Did you guess Miracle Seed? Because if you did you were wrong, it's the Mystic Water.

  11. I've read online that some people think that Vietnamese Crystal it was actually a translation from Japanese to Chinese to English. I am personally inclined to believe the same based on:

    1. China already was doing stuff like pirate translations as well as selling products in English speaking markets.

    2. There are some examples of very obvious Chinese words in this (likely) updated version of Vietnamese Crystal. Yuan is China's currency and HongYuLin (红鱼鳞) is Red Fish Scale.

Obviously this is not gospel and we never know since this stuff is not documented well (if at all) and it's unlikely any people who worked on it will be stepping forward on the English speaking side of the internet any time soon.

ecruteakforest.com/vietcrystal was a cool read and I hope the site continues to be updated. This is the kind of website that is just so cool and I hope I can (hire someone to) set up that kind of thing (for me).

  12. Come on down to Ding Town, we got wonderful local products like Anger Bread and Slowpoke Cress. Also Bark, very very cheap.

  13. So time doesn't move at all in this translation so I'm glad I chose a daytime time to get Espeon. I did notice that the day changed occasionally but I didn't really understand why and when it would change.

However, once I got Fly I realized that the day would change every time I flew somewhere so I just flew to Goldenrod repeatedly and paid for a lot of haircuts. Yes, 1mm off the top please.

It's a pain honestly even with this definitely-not-a-glitch workaround but Espeon's strength really carries me through parts of the E4.

  14. Needed a Pokemon for Surf. Um yeah, don't catch and send Pokemon to the PC I guess. I thought it was a Miltank problem so I caught a Tauros and also got a crash. I though it was a Route 39 problem and then got a crash on Route 38 too.

Both Miltank and Tauros are 5% chance of appearing by the way. I real waste of my time. I probably should have just tried to catch anything else but I really wanted to catch either one.

  15. Made friends with a Lass to get a Thunderstone but uh, a bit much don't ya think?

Also another example of inconsistent correctness. Professor Elm is rightly named so in dialogue at the beginning of the game but I guess I put him down as Yumuji in my PokeGear.

  16. So it turns out the Teru-sama given to you as soon as you can get into the PCC without it crashing your game is in-fact the GS Ball. Which you can get before you even beat Whitney without doing all that Mobile System GB stuff. It was cool being able to go through the Celebi Event for the first time and seeing the trees moving.

Problem is that you can't get Solar Beam until end-game or Giga Drain until post-game. This is a serious problem with the older games where some Pokemon just don't learn enough moves naturally for them to be useful. Still though, base stat of 100 across the board isn't anything to sneeze at.

Also this celebrity that gets ignored by PKMN only took 5 Great Balls to catch, way less than I was expecting.
