I got my copy in the mail today and it is beautiful. a nice surprise was discovering my essay was the first one. I will probably post the text of it on my blog later this week or early next. looking forward to reading all the other essays (and the artwork is unbelievably gorgeous)

Issue 2 of the Poison Garden* was released yesterday. It’s an exploration of belladonna through the lenses of ecology, science, history, theater, somatics, and art. There is even a growing guide to help nurture a personal relationship with this powerful plant.

The seed pod on my datura has finally burst open, and I've now officially grown it through an entire life cycle. I've journeyed a couple times with the flying ointment I made out of its flowers, so I feel like I've gotten to know this intoxicating plant well enough to call it an ally.

I love the sherbert colors of this Lantana!
Sometimes called ‘shrub verbena,’ it's not edible like vervain tho. Only a bit toxic to humans, but very dangerous for grazing animals, which is why it's behind the fence in my #PoisonGarden

Four favourite plants from
my #PoisonGarden - Castor Bean (lethal dose 10 seeds), Foxglove (small bunch of leaves), Monkshood (a few roots) and Angel Trumpets (small bunch of leaves). I’m hoping to grow Hemlock next year: unfortunately we don’t really have the space for Water Dropwort. -
I met the steward of a physic garden. We ended in Poisons. Woody Nightshade, crawling up trees; moody Hellebores, Spurge, Box. Her favourite, the Mandrake, had blight. She talked about nursing it & its folklore: a soul in a human-shaped root, screaming if pulled up. A strange moment, the cool walls bound in vines & locks. The sun eddied into shadow, & waves of people broke softly in the distance.
