Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS is Available to Download
The Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS release is now available to download, albeit one week later than initially planned. Serving as the second point release in the current Ubuntu 24.04 LTS series, Ubuntu 24.04.2 compacts the slew of security, bug, and software updates pushed out to the Noble Numbat since the last point release ISO was spun in August 2024. Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS also brings an updated hardware enablement stack (HWE). This is composed of a newer Linux kernel and updated graphics drivers—Linux 6.11 and Mesa 24.2.8 respectively—back-ported from Ubuntu 24.10. Why do point releases exist? Ubuntu LTS versions are supported for a :sys_more_orange:

‘Unfortunate Incident’ Means Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS Won’t Be Released This Week
Bad news for anyone expecting Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS to drop tomorrow – the release has been delayed by a week. An ‘unfortunate incident’ caused some Ubuntu 24.04.2 images to be built without the HWE kernel on board (Linux 6.11), Canonical’s Utkarsh Gupta reports. Since including a new kernel version is a key part of new point release media, it needs to be there. Building a new Ubuntu installer image is only one part of the task given that, once built, each ISO also needs to undergo testing. There’s not enough time to do all of that and still meet the :sys_more_orange:

Ubuntu 24.04.2 Arrives Feb 13 with Linux Kernel 6.11
Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS is scheduled for release on February 13th – in time for Valentines Day, aww. Canonical’s Florent Jacquet shares the date on the Ubuntu Developer mailing list today along with a note to developers to be mindful of their package uploads to noble in the coming weeks. As a result, if you’re using the latest long-term support release you may notice a slightly drop-off in the number of non-essential updates Software Updater bugs you to install between now and February 13. This allow devs to create a snapshot and test it properly. Ubuntu point releases rarely bring new :sys_more_orange:

Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS Released with Linux Kernel 6.8
The fifth and final point release to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is now available to download. This update was due to be released a couple of weeks ago but was delayed by a delay in getting Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS out the door – something had to give, so the release date of this update slipped. But it’s here now, ready to download. Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS brings a freshly-spun installer image (ISO) that includes all of the software, security, and stability updates released since the last ISO was made. This cuts down on the number of updates that have to downloaded after :sys_more_orange:

Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS is Available to Download
A new point release of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is available to download. Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS is the fourth point release and results in a brand-new installation image (ISO) that integrates all of the security patches, bug fixes, and software updates released since last August’s Ubuntu 22.04.3 image. Additionally, Ubuntu 22.04.4 ships atop a new hardware enablement stack (HWE) composed of Linux kernel 6.5 (bringing support for newer hardware, file system tweaks, and security updates) and Mesa 23.2.1 (offering improved graphics support). Package updates include Thunderbird 115.6, and Mozilla Firefox 122 (which will auto-update to the most recent release at the :sys_more_orange:
