  1. "Lovely Bird (Sold)" – Four Versions of One Wound, One Unforgettable Song
Can the same lyrics be sung in four different ways—and each time feel like you’re hearing them for the very first time?

  4. The last verse of Senses Fail’s “Miles to Go” (2022) is the final stanza from “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.” Whoever came up with that idea doesn’t know how poetry works. If you think any part of Robert Frost’s poem can exist in a vacuum, isolated from the whole, you’re a philistine.

  5. One more then I will go, promise

This Ani Difranco track is one of her spoken word poems. It also opens with the lines:

    "Us people are just poems
    We're 90% metaphor"

CW: 9/11 and everything that came after and a whole lot of feelings

The first time I heard this I was at my first Ani Difranco show and I don't think it had even been a year since the 9/11 attacks, and this just hit me like a ton of bricks

And this Leonard Cohen song references Robert Frost's poem Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening when he sings:

"And maybe I had miles to drive
    And promises to keep"

  21. A bit late for #JukeboxFridayNight #PoetryInMusic, but I’ve just remembered this gem from, of all people, The Stranglers in the song Ugly on their first album Rattus Norvegicus

    I Could Have
    Read A Poem Called
    Ozymandias
    To Her Instead
    I Lived For The Moment
    It Was A Futile
    Gesture Anyway
    I Was Here
    And She Was Here
    And Being Broad
    Of Minds And Hips
We Did The Only Thing Possible

Call me weird but I always admired the lyrics in this one which are poetry despite the typical Residents weirdness... (Betty's Body by The Residents)
    youtube.com/watch?v=CVuu5_Gk3n

    I see her every morning
    And watch her fingers forming
    Shapes that are as graceful
    As a baby's face full
Of hope until it turns to
    A neediness that burns through
Your heart like it was butter
In the mouth of someone's mother
