I saw a cow looking into a tree
And I was wondering
What did she see?

As she looked up, with her ponderous gaze
Was there really
Wondrous swathes

Of paradise birds, waltzing and flitting
While my cow,
Ground bound was itching

To join in with their aerial ball?
To fly in the sky?
Sing and dance with them all?

Of course not, it’s a cow. It’s a tree
In Wiltshire
Nothing magical, nothing to see.
