I'd like to open up public discussions on how almost all of us diaspora POC women were taught how to survive by our Moms/women guardians. We weren't taught a lot about how we are very valuable, as women. We weren't taught how to value ourselves because most of us #POCWomen were taught how to survive & learn to thrive under global patriarchal BS.
It's no surprise that many of us ended up in multiple abusive relationships, because we weren't taught how to put our own self worth above mere survival. Our Moms often lived through generations of that kind of survival first, parenting. Our parents never received it & can't teach what they've never learned. We need to start teaching self worth to a lot more little kids, all across the world!

@richpuchalsky I blocked a local white saviour woman here, last year, for being a 'Karen' about me/Mom using cardboard to mulch/kill off unwanted weeds/suffocate unwanted lawn grass. She was trying to tell me that all my efforts are killing the environment & telling me to use shit that most poor folks can't afford to buy in large quantities. I informed her that I've worked on multiple small farms that also use cardboard mulching methods because they also can't afford to buy a bunch of shit to deal with larger acreages where there's too many unwanted weeds/old lawn grass. She said, they're all destroying the environment too by using cardboard 🤡 White saviour types like her are condescending as fuck towards POC & small farmers, in general.

Unless you're offering to buy us all the shit you think we should be using - recognize that you have more privileges than most of us who have been doing food security, rewilding & Indigenous planting for decades - without spending a ton of money that we don't have to spend.

Part of my thread that's coming later this week will also discuss how being treated like shit/being disbelieved here (after getting swatted by a pathological liar who owns a huge Canadian instance, with a lot of ignorant supporters who seem unaware or don't care that their guy swatted me) - severely triggered my PTSD on being disbelieved when I tried reporting being SAed as a teen. I was bullied & ostracized for trying to report SA. People believed the rapist & not me. It brought up the same angry, disappointed & people are fucked feelings.
I had almost left Mastodon completely, due to that.

The Epstein Files triggered both of those hella horrible life memories, again. I'd never been swatted before Chad Ohman chose to send that racial violence to my home, shortly after my Dad died. Most folks (fellow POC are included) are socially conditioned to refrain from judging the polite in public white person, who abuses their white privilege & stays calm, after being shady & abusive.

Look - I've only been on Mastodon/Fediverse since 2022. I'm a non-techy person who has been perpetually online since early 90s. There's never been a fully safe space for an outspoken, disabled POC person like me - in any online community. Even going back to Usenet days - I was a minority. Every single SM I've been on has been majority white folks. Same with the Fedi. We need more diversity everywhere - online & offline.

I'm not leaving this platform due to being a minority. I'm staying & will fight for my presence & for fellow marginalized POC presences. I have always had to fight, almost my entire life - for space & to be included as a visibly disabled POC woman who is loud as heck with issues close to my heart & soul.

I can't remember when I didn't have to fight for that. My experiences here now are vastly different than in 2022. I still get some racist jerks who do their cowardly racist shit. I'm not letting those racist fuckers run me off here. FUCK THEM. I'm staying & they can go fuck off.

This video resonates with me & my family a lot. However, our family's experience as #Teochew #WarRefugees, leaving Saigon, was a lot more nightmarish & much more violent than this Mom's experience. One of my Aunties had joined the Vietcong as a medic & communications officer, after quitting her job as an ICU nurse & lived in tunnels for several years. We also had no family or friends who were already living in North America so trying to integrate into life here was more challenging.

I can understand everything they say in Teochew. There's only a few words they say differently than we do - I'll do a video with my Mom soon to point out the differences. They speak a form of Teochew #diaspora in Vietnam, that most of us #Gaginang refer to as #Vietnam villagers Teochew. We speak the Teochew that #Saigon gaginang used since early #displacement from #China years back(a long, long time ago).
