this was btw the entire point of this exercise so
achievement unlocked, office zelda successful
basically i can use this little pocket2 as a highly portable radio controller device because some of that shit absolutely requires windows and as long as the software doesn't minding sharing space with cortana then it can be as antique a version of windows as anyone could want
(and yes networking is off now long term)

okay so
i found some old instructions
and the firmware chunks i need was still on the .hk webserver (even tho' they're not on the north american server)
so if i boot my 11-year-old Intel macbook pro I should be able to boot my Windows 2000 VM to format this 6-year-old thumb drive to a version of NTFS this thing will use, and that will let me write the files to it that the Pocket 2 wants, then I should be able to F7 into system recovery and from there reinstall the OS.

it's refusing to boot off USB bootable install sticks
it really, really just wants me to log in
I _do_ now know that characters _are_ being entered properly into the dialogue because! I realised I could use tabbing to get to a username prompt and check that way.
I later figured out how to make the mouse pointer show up and move around which is convenient but does not solve the key problems

@cbleslie And, after a few months, I did revisit putting #nixos on my #gpd #pocket2. I used the 22.11 minimum install in debug mode, and it worked! The text console is even in the correct orientation. A one line fix, and my sway config is working. Only thing so far tested which is not working is the touch screen, but since I do not use it a lot, I am not worried.

My #GPD #Pocket2 laptop w/ #Linux has a Celeron 3965Y which, according to ARK, can talk to three displays at once: The laptop screen (eDP), and then one via DP and one via HDMI.
However, it only has one USB-C and two USB-A 3.0 ports.
I’ve tried connecting a USB-C dock with (among others) HDMI to it, and it works. xrandr shows it as using the DP-1 output, while HDMI-1 stays “disconnected”.
Will a USB-C dongle with HDMI _and_ DP (or similar) allow me to attach 2 ext. displays?
