Okay so why did #FSE and #SPC die? Isn’t #pleroma / #akkoma supposed to be so much better than #Mastodon? Why then couldn’t they run at full capacity indefinitely?
I’m not hating on #rebased BTW, #Poast seems to be doing fine from what little I hear. It’s just funny that I heard so many people over there boasting and bragging about how #pleroma and #akkoma are so much better than #Mastodon because they have more features and run lighter, etc. etc. meanwhile those instances are down now while instances like mstdn.social have been running at full throttle for years now with a pretty similarly sized userbase IIRC

Oh no we're not fine. The dude runs a free speech platform yet is probably the thinnest skinned dude on the whole site (not a reference to him probably being white lol). Dude literally blocked me because I made a joke referencing how many #Poast users were Nazis, while praising him for putting up with them...yeah somebody who loses their mind over something small like that isn't gonna get along well with me 😂 -

FINALLY a canadian builds a social media empire to challenge facebook, even for some small insignificant fraction of its total market dominance in social media, and boom the payment provider pulls the rug from under him for political bullshit reasons. Meanwhile crypto payments to said social media site continue as if nothing was happening.
And WHERE THE FUCK IS THE CBC ON THIS ONE?
10,000s of people, many canadians affected by political censorship by a US company and where's the canadian media? Sleeping as usual, because it's their political enemies who are affected. -

There's a bunch of weird little cis-males with inferiority complexes who got banned from mainstream social media for being obnoxious so they made a little website where they can all say the N-word as much as they want and whenever someone joins to talk back they can ban them.

Actually, poa.st is #fediblock-ed in large parts of the network due to being pretty hate-speech accepting and chan-style edgy (mods are playing with swastika symbolism).

Or you could just mute #Poast? That worked for me.
Internet rapists don’t scare me, although I’ll never cozy up to them of course. I’d personally just block them and move on.
I had no idea graf was a fan of rapists though.

I like that #postnews is quite similar to instances with names like #poast on Fedi which are pretty much all toxic and terrible shitposting instances.
"Post" is a terrible completely un-googleable name. Can you imaging searching for "social media, post" and getting anything sane?
They are owned by billionaries who intend to sell your eyeballs, and maybe share that with their top-posters as far as I can tell.
They are unlikely to federate, and seem to desire to lock you in so they can farm you like all the other people-farmers on the internet.

Sounds to me like it’s more about preventing them from replying altogether.
Bad for #freespeech, sure, but on the other hands, I think users should be able to more powerfully moderate their own content however they see fit. More moderation tools doesn’t mean the use of those tools must necessarily be abused or overused. And there are legitimate cases where it could be useful.
When it came to the drama between me and #Poast, for example, I got spammed and ratio’d with racial slurs, and when I did a follow-up quote post on my own quote post, I got spammed and ratio’d even harder with more. With #6, I would have been able to limit replies on the follow-up post, which would have been helpful because I ended up having to go and manually mute like a dozen #Poast users by hand, instead of being like “you know what, maybe I only wanna receive replies from my followers on this one”
