1. Won at Trivia for the 4th week in a row. We decided that we should donate the gift card prize to another team. 😂 Felt good about all of it.
2. Went to the Vancouver Waterfront for Salt & Straw ice cream with my sister and her family after. The moon was out and it was a beautiful night!
3. Spent a low stress day today taking her to the Wildlife Refuge and showing her the nutria, coots, egrets, herons, deer, and turtles.

Snow is a rarity here. I love snow. I love the hush and the light. It feels like peace falling from the sky.
When it's warm and melting later, it also feels like hope, spring, and happiness all at once. Birds sing as the snow floomps and water drips.

Two random people stopped next to my car to chat today at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.
- A couple on their first time through! They loved it. One grew up in Montana with acres and acres of open space around.
- A lady asked if I had seen the short eared owl. Nope, but there is a harrier right over there. She goes to Oahu every year and there is a hawk in the zoo that hates it and she wants to take it to the rescue on the Big Island.
Wish I could stay longer. So quiet!

The moon has risen perfectly framed by trees right in front of my window the last two nights. Almost full and brilliant!
Tonight, it is actually full and there is a partial lunar eclipse... And it's cloudy. 😂

After our Point Defiance Zoo visit we still had much daylight left. So, my wife says "How about we go over to Vashon and find the Troll?" Me "What are we waiting for? Let's go!" We line up for the Tahlequah ferry. The ferry is loading and with five cars in front of us, the boat is full. Dang! So, we walk over to Anthony's and have a beer and some clam chowder while we wait for the boat to return. Lemons to lemonade. #PNW #PNWlife #Tacoma #Vashon #ferry #WSF

Day tripping again today, down Tacoma way. We spent the morning wandering around Point Defiance Zoo. Amazing animals and beautiful landscape. Walrus are scary. After the zoo, we decided to ferry over to Vashon and look for the Troll. We just missed the first boat by 5 cars. So we had clam chowder and beers at Anthony's while waiting for the next boat. We found Oscar-the Bird King troll at Point Robinson. Mexican food in Vashon, and sweet baked goods to take home. They didn't make it. #PNWlife

Spent the last 17 years figuring out how to live with hot, dry summers here in Vancouver, Washington. (Yes, it gets HOT here. Did I mention I'm from Alaska?)
Now I have to figure out how to have fire safe landscaping so my house doesn't burn down in those same summers but still get shade so I don't have to use as much electric AC and also not have to use ridiculous amounts of water to irrigate a useless lawn all summer.
Some of these things seem incompatible. I'm extremely grouchy.

On this last Sunday of August, I thought I'd share some images that I've taken over the summer as I look forward to the autumn colors here in the #pnw.
