I got all of the XLR grounds wired to the chassis ground. I'm really close to being done. Most of the stuff I can't finish now is because I need the panel to do so.
-
I started wiring the AC side of this preamp and realized I was out of black wire which is of course what you used to designate the hot leg in America.

@rev_mook Tubes are 6922's. I built one before but I've added features to this one.
The only thing keeping me from christening this one is the cost of the custom front panel.
If you click on the #PMillettBuild hashtag and the #TubePreBuild hashtag there will be pics of the first build.

Almost all of the audio wiring is done in this now. Finished it today. What's left is the AC wiring, which I really can't do until I get the front panel. Reason being one of the items mounted to the front panel attaches from the outside.
-
I did a little more wiring on this tube mic preamp. It's almost completely wired. The panel you see is only a stand-in to make sure all of the switches and knobbies would fit without issue. The panel is the right size with the right holes that a friend with a waterjet at his metalshop cut for me for testing purposes. The real front panel will be thicker (either 3mm or 1/8th inch) and decorated with color and lettering and such.

As I mentioned, sometimes an analog protractor is required in life. A lot of potentiometers range of motion is about 270 degrees, but I'm using these fancy precision pots in the next version of my Pete Millett mic preamp. I emailed the manufacturer to find out the range of motion of these but they never got back to me, so I had to figure it out for myself, and this is how I did it. It turns out (no pun) that these spin 315 degrees. I need to know this for the panel design.
-
I needed to feel like I accomplished something today, so I soldered the pigtails to one of the boards for the switches and pots which are being mounted off-board. I didn't feel like doing both boards, but I will soon.
-
I've had the test front panel for many months now, but I finally got around to dry-fitting all of the components to make sure they will all fit. I'm using bigger precision potentiometers this time, along with special output gain control pots. Just making sure there's enough real-estate, and there is.
I've had all of the parts to finish this for some time but have been lazy and not worked on it. The only thing missing now if the proper front panel.

I haven't posted anything about build projects in a VERY long time. Mostly because I don't have the funds to do it, but I do have one project that's largely finished, and only needs to be assembled.
I had to order the rack box, which I did, now I just need to do some assembly. First I needed to get a test panel for the front because I've added an extra pot and other features to this one, and I want to make sure everything is going to fit. So a friend cut me the test panel.
-
I asked a friend who has access to a laser cutter to cut me a wooden panel to see if my new panel design for the #PMillettBuild tube preanp will work.
Gotta make sure all the parts fit with clearance for everything.

I haven't been able to do much building because of circumstances and finances, but I did have a spare few bucks last month, so I ordered the 2U rack box I needed to finish V2 of this Tube preamp. The main boards like this one are all done, I just need to mount them and do final assembly in the rack box.
V2 of this preamp will have different output transformers than V1 (OEP instead of Sowter) and the output before the transformer will have a gain control.

If you're into electronics and home recording, recording in general, or making, I've got a ton of projects I've built over the last 3 or 4 years all documented to varying degrees up here with hashtags.
Here they are. Good luck.

Had a great day tracking overdubs at the studio today. We did lots of lead vocals, some acoustic guitar tracks which I didn't get pictures of, and some keyboard overdubs as well (also no pics). The Millet tube preamp made it out for the overdubs as well as one of the 1176s.

I don't know if I talked about this in another post but I'll be using the EIZZ 24-step precision attenuators instead of pots in an upcoming build. These things are nice.
-
Tomorrow's project is gluing the schematics for the various ML12 components onto the enclosure's inside top panel kinda like I did for the PMillet tube mic pre. This way if any future tech opens it up they'll have the schematics to help them.
-
Version 1 of a panel design for adding an output attenuator to the Pete Millet tube mic preamp build. My friend Christopher gave me the idea and I thought it was great.
It's a little cramped so I gotta tighten it up a bit. But I got time.

@alisynthesis Some are very well documented, some aren't. And some are new projects I've barely begun but created hashtags for:

Met my friend Mike for tea today at a cafe, and he gave me some matched NOS 6922 tubes (2 JANs, 2 Sovteks). These will be for a future build. Hopefully I can get around to building another Pete Millett tube preamp in 2022. I have a bunch of parts for the build already, like those transformers that they sent me as free samples.
