Sharing this especially for @benpate https://www.plurk.com/m/andypiper #plurk

two more repos deleted from github and moved to #sourcehut
- https://git.sr.ht/~mvexel/nostalgickr - flickr 2005 interface (experimental)
- https://git.sr.ht/~mvexel/plurk-graph - visualize #plurk activity for you and your friends in a chart (perhaps interesting for the 100 people in the world that still use plurk? It's the only social network I am on besides Mastodon) -
OMG one of my #plurk friends was asking today when it was that our friend group all forgot about plurk for a while when everyone was off to facebook and instagram and such before we all came back, and I just *had to* go and scrape all our plurks in a sqlite database and do some poor-taste matplotlib things to show em.

What do you get if you combine #Myspace & #Bluesky? It's ##SkySpace! https://skyspace.me/?youronly.one Now can someone combine #Friendster & Bluesky next? Or, maybe, #Plurk & Bluesky?

Згадав, що в мене є акк на Плюрку.
Але схоже, вони так і не прикрутили ніякої федерації. -
If Threads didn't have the massive power of Instagram behind it, it would have like 20 users.
I once tried an almost empty platform called Plurk that was significantly better than the trash heap of a train wreck called Threads.
Obviously no one at Meta cares about Threads, but they'll always keep it so they can say to the EU "look, we federated. we're not a monopoly"

The #SNS the made #SocialMedia fun, #Plurk, is hiring.

I hope this is for implementing #ActivityPub and joining the #Fediverse network.
A bit of history for those not familiar with it, Plurk launched on 2008-05-12; six days before Evan sent the first post in the Fediverse (2008-05-18). Yes, Plurk and the Fediverse network are 16 years old already.
Plurk have these features:
1. Horizontal timeline. You scroll horizontally to see older posts.
2. Karma. The more active you are, the more points you'll get, it unlocks some cool stuff like new emojis; and of course bragging rights.
3. It tracks Profile views, and Friends invited.
4. Separated “Friends” (two-way / mutual) from “Fans” (one-way; you are not following them back).
5. Have various badges that a user earns over time. Because why not? Who doesn't love badges?! I love badges!
6. You can customized your profile. Check my account for example: https://www.plurk.com/Laibcoms That is not the default Plurk profile design.
7. You can give “Plurk Coins” to users (this was recent [by a few years]). You can use it for yourself or reward others for their excellent content.
8. You can post “anonymously” (private or public).
9. Visibility options are: the whole world; custom (list, individuals, friends only); only me.
10. Comment options are: the whole world; friends; myself.
11. Resharing/boosting can be turned-off.
12. An option to mark post as “Adults Only”.
13. And many more…(Some of the above features are available in some Fediverse software; either in mainline or forks. [And in some cases, a fork removes a feature from mainline.])
I truly want Plurk to join the Fediverse network. They'll show the fediverse community that you can design things differently and add other “cool” features as well. We don't need to stick to the tired design of #Twitter , #Facebook , #Instagram . ^_~

@awesomecast @sorgatron I'd not heard of #Plurk until now! For me it was #LiveJournal. I didn't bother with #MySpace. And #IRC was always running, as well as #MSNmessenger a lot of the time.
Then there was good ol' #ICQ. I even remember my number and will probably recite it when I have dementia. #YahooChat was somewhere in the mix! I still remember my username.

臺灣擁有的社交網絡平臺 Plurk(自2008年以來)嚴重需要添加 ActivityPub 支持並加入 Fediverse網絡。
Taiwanese-owned social-network platform #Plurk (s. 2008) seriously need to add #ActivityPub support and join the #Fediverse network.

One way to promote the #Fediverse is by making the different fediverse software support custom profile skins and themes. This can potentially create an ecosystem of skin and theme creators, which in turn will make more people talk about it.
I differentiate between a skin and a theme because:
* A “skin” is like changing the CSS of the default layout. Adding an image here and there, new icons, and colours and gradients.
* While a “theme” can change the layout itself. The widgets available, or shuffle them around. Possible even a way to add custom ones (careful with this though).Remember the original #CMS in late 90s to 2010? #PHPnuke #PostNuke #Xaraya etc.?
You can add, remove, and move widgets around. Use custom ones easily. Change colours easily. Change the widths, the columns, and so on. That is a “theme”. There were even third-party frontend packages a developer can use so they don't have to worry much about it.
Skinning is the simplest method; and this was what made #Plurk popular when it launched in May 2008 (yes, Plurk is as old as the Fediverse network). There was a Plurk skin ecosystem, which in turn increased the number of people talking about Plurk.
Apply the theming feature from the early CMS brands with Plurk's user-level skinning feature, and we create a playground for the users.
#Misskey and forks already had a good start with their user-level skinning feature (and user-level plugins at that). We just need to see it in the other popular fediverse software.
Make it easier to understand. Write guidelines in layman's terms, not dev terms, and maybe, just maybe, we can spark the interest of new users. Who doesn't want a customisable user profile?

@ubi Haha, true! It is 99% impossible to get ASEANs to use the fediverse. We can forget the fediverse, just Threads itself is being ignored even though Instagram is very popular in the region.
It's only Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Plurk, in that particular order. ^_^
The reasons for this are (at least based from experience and observation):
1. Family connections.
2. Fandoms + official accounts of their idols
3. Government accounts.I am hoping that Threads can make fandoms and those official accounts to create Threads with Fediverse. Theoretically, it can be helpful in getting a huge chunk to move to the Fediverse
(Unfortunately, there is an anti-fandom vocal minority in the Fediverse, who's trying to gatekeep the network. /facepalm)
Another one that's good are government accounts with fediverse enabled.
But, until those happen, those 5 SNS platforms will remain.
As for language, except for the #Philippines and #Singapore, English is not an official language in the 8 member Nations (even though English is the official language of the organisation itself). Many can speak English, but it's more natural for them to speak in their local languages.
There are ASEANs in the fediverse network, but in the grand scheme of things… we're still few and a minority.

This is the goal behind a #SocialWeb (2005), & the #fediverse (2008).
If #Apple can, for #RCS; #BlueSky #Facebook #Twitter #Plurk #Spoutible can, for #ActivityPub.
-
In no particular order:
* #Fediverse (via c.im; firefish.social; pixelfed.social; and others)
* #Plurk
* #T2social
* #Spoutible
* #Bluesky
* #Vero -

Found via #Plurk from zakame - #Perl Community
Powered by #Friendica
-
* #Friendster and #MySpace were my first.
* Then #Facebook.
* Later #Twitter.
* Followed by the #Fediverse through #Identica (software: #Laconica).
* Next was #Plurk, 15 years ago today, and I'm still using it.It's crazy to realise it has been that long already.
-
Just a wild idea… a #fediverse version of #Plurk.
Some features (and explanation where needed)
* Side scrolling timeline
* Customisable layouts (backgrounds, colours, etc.)
* “Karma” points (higher means you are active, and gets a lot of interaction, too, or recruited a lot of people who became active). Hovering over your Karma score shows a graph of your activity, interaction (you did and received), and other factors involved in the computation
* With badges, users can earn
* Replies, though not threaded, it is displayed together with the post
* Posts display the number of comments
* View unread posts
* Anonymous postingAttached are some screenshots.
You can also check my old profile here (since 2008-08-07): https://www.plurk.com/Laibcoms (used to have 92.xx karma. LOL. I've been inactive that long, it's down to 54.88).

OMG yes - sideways awesomes at #Plurk - I think I used to use hellotxt or dial2do to push to all the networks at once back in 2010 using a free voice call number from an old nokia. That was life before #mobile broadband and #smartphones
