An article published in the journal "Gondwana Research" reports the discovery of an ichthyosaur fossil in present-day Australia that preserved the contents of its stomach, which includes the remains of a pterosaur. The ichthyosaur itself shows remarkable signs of having been bitten by a pliosaur, which literally broke its bones.

One from the archives for #FossilFriday. A much younger me with the skull of the giant plesiosaur Rhomaleosaurus cramptoni, in a store room of the National Museum of Ireland, back in 2007.
The skull has been turned upside down here, a view not often seen, as I was inspecting the palate.

The first mural I ever painted (1997) was at the Dudley Museum & Art Gallery, for a temporary exhibition of marine Jurassic fossils. Part of the mural featured a pliosaur; I reworked the pliosaur pose in my 2009 "Leviathan" painting for The Etches Collection.

As Etches tells it, the creature was 32 feet long, with a bullet-shaped snout, a thick neck and a set of triangular striated teeth that could be almost a foot long. It was propelled by four paddling appendages and might have been capable of speeds of 30 mph.

"Today I was reunited with one of my favourite fossils in Nottingham.
This is a giant Liopleurodon tooth from Peterborough, England! I was lucky enough to be able to hold this monster in 2013.
Liopleurodon was a giant pliosaur and not too different from the monster that was discovered recently and shown in “Attenborough and the Giant Sea Monster”.
This tooth is now in display at Wollaton Hall’s Natural History Museum."
