Family picture of the #Moon (with Earthshine) and the open star cluster #Pleiades (M45/Seven Sister) just below. The bright 'star' right below is the planet #Venus. If you want to locate #Uranus, it is straight above the church tower, about halfway between Moon and Venus.

Evening trio - The crescent moon, Venus, and the Pleiades...in three views as twilight progresses.

First view captures the moon and Venus, but it was still too bright for the Pleiades. The band of orange-yellow twilight sky gives lots of contrast to the rest of the sky.

Second view is a close look at Venus and the moon. Earthshine is obvious on the rest of the moon's disk.

Third view captures the blue stars of the Pleiades as twilight gets darker.

The James #Webb Space Telescope would probably not be your first choice for observing the large open #StarCluster of the #Pleiades but the authors of the paper "JWST imaging of the Pleiades: anisotropy of turbulence in the cold neutral medium" - https://arxiv.org/abs/2602.03672 - did it anyway, to study the turbulent energy cascade in the CNM the cluster happens to move through right now. Here is what they saw, with the NIRCam and the F335M filter - for the four cuts from the JWST pictures at the bottom in detail see fig. 2 of the paper.

Pour le réveillon de ce soir il y aura une petite #conjonction entre la #Lune et les #Pléiades qui est un amas d'étoiles. Normalement visible sans instrument l'usage de jumelles sera recommandé. Pour la France métropolitaine il faudra observer des que le ciel sera sombre. Les Pléiades seront à droite et un peu en haut de la Lune. Pas loin se trouve aussi la planète #Uranus visible au télescope ou en photo longue pose.

We had clear skies on 11/22 so I managed to get a few shots of M45 (the Pleiades), and sh2-129 squid nebula. The first three shots are M45 with different cameras and scopes, the last two are of sh2-129 - you can start to see the oblong blue nebula which is the Squid shape. I didn't capture enough shots to truly bring out the full shape, but hopefully I can add more to it over time. Enjoy!

Towards the end of last night I decided to shoot M45 - The Pleiades. For me this is a very special cluster because it has almost the same story associated with it across the entire world. Almost everywhere in the world it is some variation on seven sisters being chased by a man (Orion). This consistency is unique in the myths and stories associated with the stars, and the sort of thing that makes amateur cultural anthropologists overly excited.

Here I have used two similar telescopes, but with different filters. The blue one was shot using a basic light pollution filter, and the green with an Ha/OIII filter. The overall exposures are similar (50-59minutes), and the post-processing is similar. The green one was shot on a #DwarfII, and the blue on a #Dwarf3.

The different orientations are because I had packed up the DwarfII, expecting clouds that had appeared earlier to build up, whereas what actually happened was they dispersed. So I set it out again, but only in Alt/Az mode rather than EQ.

The #Pleiades, also known as the #SevenSisters, is a prominent open star cluster in the constellation Taurus, easily visible to the naked eye as a small, misty grouping of bright blue stars.

Last night we were treated to the Waxing Crescent Moon cozying up to the Pleiades star cluster just after sunset.

A low cloud was kind enough to pass in front of the moon when I took this photo, dimming its glow and revealing the line of craters while the unobscured stars were still shining brightly.

This inspired me to do a quick one night tour of the features she described.

To my shame, I had never heard of the Hyades Cluster, so that was a particular adventure for me. It also proved too much of a challenge for my little Dwarf3 - the 3 degree FoV is just not quite enough to capture the whole cluster.

Now, these are not the greatest shots of these features - I had work the next day, so I had to cram everything into about 1 1/2 hours. Great astrophotography this is not. But what it is is a tour through time. It was, however, also a chance to test out the scheduling feature of the beta software for the Dwarf.

7.5hr on M45, the Pleiades, last night.

EQ-mode worked, although I didn't notice the difference in the data anyway. Took two runs, giving 999*2 = 1998 files (half fits, half TIFF because the dwarf doesn't put timestamps in its filenames). Also took all day to process the stuff properly in PI.

A widefield view of the Pleiades cluster and reflection nebula (M45) at the North-West end of the constellation Taurus. The surrounding interstellar dust in is illuminated by the blue giant stars of the cluster, giving this nice fuzzy blue cloud look.

While most images of the Pleiades focus on the cluster itself, I wanted to take a wider field image to show the extent of the interstellar dust in this area, including this long arching structure to the left of the cluster in the image.

Cette nuit vous pourrez observer une #conjonction #Lune-#Jupiter. Pour la France métropolitaine observez peu après 23h regardez en direction de l'est-nord-est. La Lune, levée depuis peu, sera accompagnée de Jupiter à droite et un peu en bas.

En photographie il sera même possible d'avoir #Uranus et les #Pléiades pas loin mais très faibles en face de la Lune leur observation ne sera pas aisée.
