@scheich @teezeh Mein #2fa App verlangt das auch. Und die läuft ohne #playservices. Und die #camera App auch, logischerweise. Das die PS danach fragen, klingt seltsam. Stell mal Screenshot hier rein.

In den letzten Monaten habe ich mich manchmal über komische Werte in der App gewundert. Heute hab ich herausgefunden, das die App ohne #google #playservices einfach nur Müll anzeigt. Keine Fehlermeldung, kein Hinweis, auch bei der Installation der App nix.
Das ist einfach nur Müll! Was geht Google an, was meine Solaranlage macht?

Do I miss anything here or do I really need either an #Apple or an #Google #Android-Smartphone with full and privileged #PlayServices to commission devices via the "open" #Matter standard? Even for Home Assistant?

⚠️ PSA for those using the #GoogleCamera alias #GCam:

Starting with version 10 the GCam no longer works without Play Services installed. Latest version known to be working without them is 9.9.

If you are affected by this and don't want to get the update by accident you should blacklist the app in your app store such as #AuroraStore.

Confirmed. InPost #app really couldn't work on degoogled #Android phones. Possible to install e.g. via #AuroraStore but during launch it hangs on error message about lacking #PlayServices.

From a privacy-focused perspective, #MicroG clearly has the advantage. While Google #PlayServices even when sandboxed, are still designed to collect certain telemetry and diagnostics, MicroG deliberately avoids collecting or transmitting such data.

MicroG is intentionally designed to replicate only the essential APIs required for app compatibility. It excludes the broader telemetry and analytics components that are deeply embedded in the official Google Play Services.

Well that's two #matter lightbulbs connected via #homeassistant without having to mess around with other apps or cloud accounts. The only wrinkle is that for some reason (#playservices?) I need the #playstore version of the companion app. Otherwise I'm sold on it for future home automation devices.

#NetworkLocation is so crucial. In #Germany I was in regional trains in #Niedersachsen and #Bayern, both times there is 0% #GPS inside the train. If you dont physically hold your phone outside a window, you have no idea where you are.

Networklocation solves this easily. I had cell internet all the time. You may even pass by houses and get #geolocation through their #Wifi APs.

Use #NeoStumbler in trains and subways, especially if you have #PlayServices installed!
