I've had the opportunity to watch some #PlaySchool (huh! Brand new Mashtag on Masto!) recently. The current version of the intro - particularly the overture-like first 20 seconds is surprisingly epic.

I was just thinking about how when I was a very small kid, #PlaySchool was my favourite TV show, and one of the most thrilling things about it was the combination of routine and surprise
I loved the rituals on the show: the opening credit song; the familiar songs that frequently recurred; looking Through the Windows; the storytime introduced by a fancy clock
but the thrill of the show was all the variables I could never be sure of, and that I would be absolutely riveted to the TV to discover:
– which presenters would be hosting today
– which shaped Window we would look Through (my favourite was the Arched Window but I think that was most people's favourite)most of all
– would storytime be introduced by the Rocket Clock or the Flower Clock?
Mostly it was the Rocket Clock, but I fkn LIVED FOR the days when it was the Flower Clock. I can still hear the song it played in my mind
whereas I can't really remember the Rocket Clock theme
I had this idea in my tiny mind that Play School would choose particular options based just for me
I would be in the most jubilant mood whenever it was my favourite presenters (Noni Hazlehurst, Benita Collings and John Hamblin), the Arched Window AND the Flower Clock
I also used to be plunged into really dark moods when I had really been yearning for the Flower Clock but it was the fkn Rocket Clock again
I wonder if there was any rhyme or reason to how the Play School production team chose each variable. I know it's the most carefully planned and performed show

If you want some top Aussie laughs from the 1980’s - I highly recommend the ABC New South Wales christmas blooper reel from 1984 and 1987.
The Play School outtakes from the John Hamblin and Benita Collins era alone are worth the price of admission.

As a #Sikh boy growing up with a topknot I always had a fondness towards Floella Benjamin.
Always liked watching her on TV.
