  1. I finally did it! After years of trying and failing, I finally got #thesims2 running in #Linux. The secret all along was to use #Lutris to install it. I used the "Universal DVD installer script" on their website and it worked first try! It even worked when #Steam and #Playonlinux didn't. This was the last program I needed #Windows for, so now it's time to erase the partition... once I pull up all of the mods and custom houses and characters I created over the years. lutris.net/games/the-sims-2/

  6. Ich hab da zwei so Stück Software... exe Files.
    PE32...

  11. Last night I updated #endeavouros and afterwards I discovered that #skyrim wouldn't start up due to an error with the EGL graphics layer or something. I assumed it was probably a #wine problem so I tried to change the version in #playonlinux but it didn't have any versions newer than 8.x in its kernel selector. Turns out PlayOnLinux hasn't been updated in years and the wine update just broke it. Now I'm going to have to reinstall it with #Lutris or something. I hope my save files are safe.

  15. Bonjour bonjour!
(une sombre histoire de msxml:doparse Start tag expected, '<' not found )
Merci!!

  20. Morning tests...

The story behind: a client is considering moving all the new mini PCs in their office to Linux (no BSD is compatible at the moment), since they mainly use web apps and LibreOffice. This client once told me they loved Transport Tycoon, back in the days, so I’m preparing an openSUSE Leap image. I’m sure they’ll be fascinated by this screenshot and the demo installation.

  25. I spent the past few days abroad as I had to attend some family business. We went by #train (german ICE bullet train) and being somewhat of a #trainnerd this sparked a renewed interest in #trainsimulator software that will run on #Linux using #WINE.

Aside from #Zusi3 which is a professional simulator also being used in training centers in germany, there is oldie-but-goldie #MSTS (Microsoft Train Simulator) released in 2001 (!)

Yes, this was 24 years ago but still, a lot of #railsim fans here in europe consider it one of the best of its kind and third party patches have been released over the decades to keep it up to date with modern hardware and to iron out some longtime bugs.

However, there is also an alternative to that called #OpenRails which is an open-source remake of MSTS able to run commercial and free content originally designed for MSTS. I installed it using #WINE and #PlayOnLinux on my #VoidLinux box to check out how it performs. Note that I had to use winetricks to install .net 4.7.2 and xna3.1!!

So here are a few screenshots of Open Rails running the commercial "RhB Bernina" Content I bought decades ago.
