  1. Here' a longer recording of me surviving in Road to Vostok running on #OpenBSD:

It's in early access, but has been very stable. You need a decent CPU/GPU able to run Vulkan for this.

  2. Join me for a live stream of the atmospheric survival FPS "Road to Vostok" (early access version) running on #OpenBSD in 37 minutes (23:00 UTC) at:

  3. Will stream Western- and Lovecraftian-themed soulsborne demake Tombwater from OpenBSD at 23:00 UTC:

  5. Part 3 of exploring the post-nuclear wasteland formerly known as the USA in Fallout, on OpenBSD via fallout1-ce... Today March 4, at 23:00 UTC (very soon):

  6. Live stream of the classic cRPG Fallout on #OpenBSD will start at 23:00 UTC at:

"Join me in revisiting the landmark cRPG Fallout from 1997 on OpenBSD via fallout1-ce. Besides showing how it plays on OpenBSD, I'm also planning to use the opportunity to wax philosophically about how this game's take on computer role-playing offers a way to engage with its world that is rather rare among games in general, even many modern so-called RPGs (that includes Fallout's own sequels)."

  7. You can now enter a time capsule back to the year 1997 and from there into a post-nuclear retro-future on #OpenBSD with fallout1-ce in ports. You need the assets from Fallout 1 to play though.

Thanks to @izder456 for the hard work and persistence!

  8. I stumble through the beginning of Terraria and went down into the mines to bring you the gem that is gaming on OpenBSD in 2026! Replay here:

  9. Straw poll for my #PlayOnBSD game stream for today (22:00 UTC). Which game should I stream from OpenBSD? (spectra.video/w/bWdML9RsTHLwir)

  10. Farming, ranching and frontier simulator "Cattle Country" runs great on #OpenBSD with an update to FNA to 26.02 and a tiny library aptly named "SDL_BleepBloop".

  11. Desktop streaming on #OpenBSD using VAAPI is quite performant. I've recorded myself playing Northgard in 1440p, using fauxstream. The hardware encoding quality on this generation of Radeon GPUs (RX 6700 XT in my case) is known to be of poor quality, so there is noticeable loss of detail when panning over the map, but it seems to be quite smooth otherwise and audio/video stay in sync.

  13. @AFresh1 @BoydStephenSmithJr The Steam client is closed source, but you can get your downloads on #OpenBSD with steamctl from ports.

    openbsd.app/?search=steamctl&c

That breaks occasionally when Steam's API changes. Better to buy on GOG, itch.io, or Zoom-Platform which allow for direct downloads.

Best way to browse which commercial games can run on OpenBSD is here:

  14. @thfr @solene

It would be great to see our games run on OpenBSD, but - as of yet - there are no BSD users on our team. If anyone's interested in looking into that to make it happen, you're more than welcome to come aboard.

  15. It's been a long time since I've seen a new #PlayOnBSD game based on #XNA, but here is a nice one:

... and it's free! On #OpenBSD, you can use #IndieRunner to launch it...

  20. @hukadan Can't find your bot to follow from bsd.network, but I added a lot of new games to the database in the last days.

  21. Heads up #OpenBSD gamers and enthusiasts: I removed openbsd-games.json from the OpenBSD-Games-Database.

    github.com/playonbsd/OpenBSD-G

The reason is that with no linebreaks, commits end up growing the repo massively.

There is still openbsd-games-formatted.json which has the same content, but formatted with the line breaks which makes commits a lot smaller in size.

  22. Bazzite and CachyOS were sitting on the front page on HN this morning, so I thought I'd add one more gaming focused OS. :flan_peek:

  23. #IndieRunner now supports detecting and launching Godot 4 games. A number of them work on #OpenBSD, like Buckshot Roulette, 8 colors star guardians plus and a few more...

  24. Moonring is an homage to the early RPGs in the vein of Ultima. It's 100% free on Steam and runs on #OpenBSD using the package love version 11.

Use the still in alpha #IndieRunner, or simply:

    $ love-11 moonring.exe

    #PlayOnBSD

  25. #GravityCircuit is an indie game paying homage to Mega Man. It runs on #OpenBSD with some minor setup needed - extracting app image and stubbing the luasteam calls at this point. #PlayOnBSD

  26. Are you hoping to grow a village this fall, using dice? Perfect fall game if you ask me - Dice Tribes: Ambitions runs on #OpenBSD! It uses the #Haxe-based #HashLink engine so you can #PlayOnBSD!

PS: Thanks to brynet for the find! (via steamdb.info/tech/Engine/HashL by the way...)

PPS: Screenshots show running it with WIP #IndieRunner github.com/IndieRunner/IndieRu

  27. I've been back to playing #UrtukTheDesolation on #openbsd. It's got pretty neat and challenging tactics; interesting unit types. I feel like I haven't figured out how to get most out of the mid-Game. After the early game, progress with stats and items feels less significant. The way Focus abilities enter a general pool rather than applying to the unit that has the ability still confuses me...

  32. It's been a while, but now there's a new #FNA game running on my #OpenBSD computer. The name is Crystal Project and it's made in a 2D/3D mix. You can find it on Steam, download it with steamctl from packages, and run with fnaify (also from packages). #PlayOnBSD

  33. While all of these games are quite interesting on first sight, #CrueltySquad is definitely the one that got the most media attention. An interesting, surreal FPS with influences from immersive sims like #DeusEx and assassination simulators like the #Hitman games. Probably one of the most interesting additions to the #OpenBSD gaming catalogue in a while. #playonbsd

  34. Another weekend, another completed video game.

This time, a version of snake for the Unix console whose compiled binary fits entirely on a QR code.

    github.com/ibara/snakeqr

It's a whopping 2039 bytes for the complete game!

Probably only works on #OpenBSD ootb, but can be easily ported to you favorite Unix.

  35. Just added the ability in the Free Bee web client to click on the images to type out letters. Perfect for our smartphone users!

With this, I think the web client is feature complete. I'd like to do auto-saving of web games but I don't want to use cookies. I guess I can use localStorage for that but... eh...
