  1. I'd almost completely forgotten about the existence of "Play By Mail" games, but apparently they were big enough to warrant as much coverage as consoles. The "It's a Crime" ad feels like it was everywhere in the late 80s. And Wayne might be the most 80s dude imaginable.

I seem to remember being deeply intrigued by them. But then I got in with a DnD/Warhammer group and probably saved myself a tonne of money in postage.

  3. I’m stealing the shelves from the fridge. What are you stealing?

Text reads: You're a burglar. But you can only steal things that mildly inconvenience your victim's. What are you taking? I'm stealing the plate that goes in the microwave.

    Please boost for more suggestions.

  4. Advance Wars By Web
Advance Wars By Web is a long-standing website allowing for Advance Wars games to take place between players online. It's old enough that it came out before Advance Wars Dual Strike, the first DS Advance Wars game, and has survived long enough to see the release of Dual Strike, Advance Wa

  5. Decades ago, children played the board game Risk and adults played Diplomacy. While the point of Diplomacy is strategy, it has the “press” where you write news articles in-game.

Some Manitobans 🇨🇦 decided to de-emphasize gameplay in favor of world-building. They collaborated 📬 with others 🌎 to tell the story 📰 of Slobbovia. Military gameplay continued, but telling a fun story was more valuable.

  6. @dharmadischarge Never really got my attempts off the ground - neither private forum, nor e-mail. Problem is my players usually want the GM do almost all of the work and play-by-mail / play-by-post is by nature more of an equal chore. Don't get me wrong, I think it can work quite well with the right people. I wouldn't go over three players for starters, though.

If I were to try again, I'd use a private forum. If there's something you need to keep secret you can PM the GM (or the other players). Only disadvantage is everybody will see your posts at the same time, but you can edit posts and on some forums even use dice roller tools.

One thing that's been mentioned already: Make really sure how many posts per day or days per post you want and whether you are all thinking of posting in the same time frame (some people think of "day" as six a.m. to eleven p.m. an some of four p.m. to eight p.m.). Maybe use a weekend day to start off with more posts than usual to generate some interest and gauge how fast you want play to be.

If you want some examples of play-by-post, you can look here:

Play-by-email might be best with some mailing-list in the background ( groups.io for example ). That way you can have a good archive of the mails or at least of the "official" GM mails.

Hope that helps a bit, even if I can't offer lots of experience.

  7. Was ich heute gemacht habe? "Echsengötter" aus der #Phileasson Saga weiter gehört und zehn neue Stichworte in die MyraPedia, unsere #ProjektMyra #Weltenbau Enzyklopädie, eingebaut. Klingt nicht viel. Über 11.000 Artikel auf über 20.000 Seiten sind dennoch eine Menge. für eine #CreativeCommons #pnpde und #playbymail (PBM) Welt myra.fandom.com/

  8. Anyone still playing #PBeM? (#PlayByEmail)

The last time I played PBeM, I think it was in 2004/2005. It was already an upgraded version, through #YahooGroups. My first PBeM was via #eGroups (before #YahooClubs acquired it and merged as YGroups).

If I remember correctly, before the Internet, it was played through postal mail. I did not experience it, though I have the same question: anyone still playing #PBM #PlayByMail?

  9. Deusmas came early this year and I've been reading "Game Programming Patterns" by Robert Nystrom. It's written for video games but an awful lot of the patterns are relevant to turn based games.
