"When #JamieIsaacson received an application in his mailbox earlier this month to help choose the #Maine #DemocraticParty’s next #US #Senate #nominee at Saturday’s #nominatingconvention, he wasn’t interested.
If accepted as a delegate, #Isaacson, a 72-year-old #Jewish #Portland resident, would have joined 601 Maine #Democrats at the party’s convention in #Bangor to select a replacement for #GrahamPlatner, the staunch #Israel critic who bowed out of the race earlier this month following #sexualassault allegations, which he has denied.
Instead, Isaacson sat it out, vowing not to have anything to do with the party that had chosen #Platner as its nominee in the first place.
“I thought it wasn’t worth my time, to be honest with you,” Isaacson told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. “I mean, we’ve been blindsided by the #Democratic Party here and nationally, and I’ve been a #Democrat my whole life.”

CW: Maine Senate Seat
Digging into Jackson, I'm very suspicious of him & his GOP past, but he also seems closest to the "blue collar" background and progressive platform that Platner ran on so he's probably the most likely to excite the huge percentage to for some reason voted for Platner. So I get the choice, you couldn't install somebody who was deeply different than the guy who overwhelmingly won the nomination.

If it's only about policies, why did Platner gain so much traction while the other progressive candidates in Maine didn't?
hint: Because part of Democratic voters are very susceptible to the lies of a white charismatic man who pretends to be working class. And he wasn't even good at lying. His lies were so obvious.
Why they fell so easily for his "rugged masculinity" is something they absolutely need to investigate. The very same people absolutely nitpick every female candidate's flaws while Platner's horrible scandals got the "Well nobody's perfect" or "That's just purity testing" treatment.
Just pretending now that "they fell for his lies and are not to blame" is not going to cut it.
Having the goal to "listen" more to women and people of colour is fine, but absolutely not enough. Former Platner fans need to ask themselves difficult questions about masculinity ideals, about himpathy, about white privilege (No way a candidate of colour would have survived that many scandals!).

OK, so now that it's pretty much done, I have thoughts about the #Platner nomination.
First, clearly there is a huge appetite in the electorate for people who sound like they want to fight hard for big changes. The reason the Wall Street #Democrats hated Platner was because he was not them and threatened their comfortable existence. They don't want to fight their friends across the aisle and resent being told they should.

Turns out that it's MEN who are the problem.
"Moraff, this wealthy Ivy League boy, and his partner almost literally went window-shopping for a burly white guy who fit their paint-by-numbers stereotype of a gruff, populist white workingman. They saw tattoos and a beard and went nuts. Then they didn’t bother to dig nearly deep enough into the guy’s history to find any dirt that could derail him. And boy was there plenty of it."

Indivisible sent me an email in which they boasted of their efforts to support campaigns that were, inter alia, not supported by #AIPAC.
I'm no fan of AIPAC, as anybody who reads my posts knows. But "not supported by AIPAC" is code for "pro- #Israel", and we all know it.
Then today on #PodSaveAmerica, Jon Lovett complained that Graham #Platner 's bitter, whiny public denial wasn't doing anything to help "stop the #genocide. " I'll say it again: bad shit happens in war. Some people should be held accountable for their roles in said shit, as appropriate. But the #Gaza campaign is no "genocide" — and referring to it that way is either ignorant, deceitful, or both.
Jon was previously a supporter of Platner. He was wrong then, and he's still wrong. I wonder, Jon, if instead of the "totenkopf", Platner had a tattoo of the words "God Hates Fags"—would you have been so willing to overlook his hate then?
Wherever #Jews have no political home, they are in danger.

The way so many people just glossed over his posts about wanting to go to war to kill people (in Iraq) was horrible.
Apparently "He wanted to kill people and then he did" is not a red line for quite a lot of people.
I had assumed the entire US left was against America invading other countries, but now I know that supporting a white charismatic guy is more important for part of US leftists.
His primary opponent was a woman who committed the crime of being old, which I was told was "disqualifying" while criticizing Platner was "purity testing" as "Nobody's perfect".

As a leftist who thought Platner was absolutely awful, I think it's clear that influencers and podcast bros fell for him because he's a charismatic white guy and they thought the Democratic party needs more of his rugged working-class warrior persona.
The sexism of the "HR lady" comment was pretty obvious.
Platner's lies about the SS tattoo were obvious from the start and many feminists criticized his victim-blaming posts regarding sexual assault that became public knowledge months ago, as well as the whole sexist narrative about a white male saviour and "fighter" needed to save the Dem party from all these old women (the "HR ladies").Let's not pretend that Platner was supported by every leftist, as if us leftist feminists - and other Platner critics from the left - didn't exist.
