This is significant because Norway is not merely discussing child-safety guidance; reports say it plans legislation that would bar under-16s from social media and shift enforcement responsibility onto platforms through age verification.

The @EUCommission’s #DigitalServicesAct enforcement cost about €15 million less than anticipated in 2025.
"The surplus comes as the cost of human resources was some €8 million lower than estimated, with operational and administrative expenditure some €7.5 million lower," wrote Politico.
In other words: the Commission has difficulties hiring the number of staff it needs to hold #BigTech accountable.

A Los Angeles jury awarded $3 million against Meta and YouTube in the first social media addiction trial, finding platform design features were a "substantial factor" in causing harm to a young user. Jury also found evidence of malice, setting up punitive damages. With 100,000+ similar claims pending and federal trials coming, this verdict could reshape platform liability beyond content moderation protections.

Regulating the Platforms
At their #rp25 ession with Chan-Jo Jun & Dr Jessica Flint
Social media platforms act like shadow governments, deciding what we see. Meanwhile, the state has been reduced to just another user.
Right-wing extremist content that violates human dignity dominates platforms—because polarisation is profitable. We don’t just need regulation like the Digital Services Act—we need to implement and enforce it. Fundamental rights must apply online just as offline.

⚡️ Study finds UK's online safety regime lacks fundamental regulatory capacity, giving platforms superior resources and posing risks of regulatory capture. To avert this, government must assert authority, ensuring rigorous oversight and enforcement of the regime. #PlatformRegulation #OnlineSafety https://www.riskmap.com/incidents/1965384/articles/200049168/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon

Coming back to the office after 2 months to find out that #Amazon,
the 4th largest company *in the world* by revenue,
which runs an #ecommerce website with 2+ billion monthly users,
argues its "fundamental rights" have been violated by the @EU_Commission because they designated Amazon as #VeryLargeOnlinePlatform under the #DigitalServicesAct.
You can't make this shit up.
