My first time trying to assemble a photo etch detail set. I managed to drop and loose some parts and had to improvise replacements. It's going into an Academy 1:72 kit for an A6M Zero. I tried the same kit as my first foray into model kits as an adult years ago, screwed up the decals, got a second kit, and then for several years have found other projects and acquired accessories like tho photo etch. Now I'm finally going to build it.

The model was scaled to the Monogram First Lunar Landing model kit, because I happened to have one of the astronaut figures from that laying around. It would have been VERY small, like mini-van sized probably. I was comparing it to narrow-gauge logging and agricultural railroads here on Earth, where things are scaled down. I designed a locomotive and passenger cars too, on paper, but never built them.

Hobby store in #Eugene #Oregon had a 30% off sale on models so I finally picked up the @TamiyaUSA P-51D I have been looking to build. Also a fresh rattle can of Tamiya’s Silver Leaf paint, which the store said is the closest to polished aluminum that they sell.

This was quite a unique modelling experiment: I tried to enhance one of these cheap plastic toy guns found in Chinese copied toy soldier bags up to 54 mm standards.
