  2. Excited to kick off #IMMEMXIV in Porto, Portugal with the first session focusing on #plasmid typing for surveillance! A fantastic session thanks to our 5 great speakers and now we are going into the first debate session on strain typing in high-income vs low-resource settings. #IDSky #clinmicro

  6. #gamers! This week's episode is a fight a long time coming, as we find out who would win between #Dishonored protagonist #corvoattano and #Bioshock protagonist #jackwynand! Outsider #Magic meets #Plasmid Powers! Wanna know who wins? Tune in now! #podcast #gaming #fyp #explorepage

  7. How best to avoid the costs of bearing a plasmid? @rctwright @jpjhall &co find it's best for #bacteria to compensate plasmids by chromosomal (not plasmid-borne) mutations, resulting in 'hubs' for #plasmid accumulation evolution & dissemination #PLOSBiology plos.io/3ODbXdN

  8. Becoming a big fan of whole #plasmid sequencing for new constructs (Nanopore). Also a big fan of Q5 and Phusion polymerases for their accuracy and of the Hot Fusion variant of the Gibson assembly for its price and convenience (no ligation required!)

  18. 'Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a leading cause of sexually transmitted disease and a concern due to increasing AMR. It contains a restricted repertoire of plasmids, including a conjugative plasmid, pConj, which disseminates plasmid-mediated AMR. We show that, in contrast to broad host range plasmids, pConj is largely restricted to and adapted to N. gonorrhoeae, and has been remarkably conserved since it first emerged over 80 years ago.'

  24. A two-part resurrection tale (1|2)

    by Christoph
Besides a resurrection tale that I'll relate to in the second part, this post will be about anti-defense systems of plasmids as an intrinsic part of the seemingly endless arms race between conjugative elements and their hosts. Still, I am not inclined to act as war correspondent, and certainly not at a time...
