  1. Hey #plantstodon (is that a thing?), question for you:

Wife has this philodendron birkin which has a massive stalk. Thing is, she’s pretty sure this is supposed to be, uh, “bushier”. She doesn’t have a fedi account so I’m asking on her behalf.

She thinks she can just cut above that bottom node, and then replant the top and end up with two plants.

Problem is: well, you know. It’s impossible to actually find information unless you know where to look, and we just don’t.

    Any help would be appreciated!

  6. CW: Plants

Is anyone else always and perpetually fascinated to see roots grow in a jar of water from a #pothos cutting? Never ceases to amaze me to watch the roots grow. Nature is incredible and miraculous.

  11. 🌷 Dog's Tooth Violet Erythronium dens-canis (actually a lily)

The woods were dotted with these beautiful pink flowers, poking through the mats of dead bracken.

I've seen the odd one or two in previous years, but never so many!

  12. Another #AskFedi question.

I understand that it's not a great idea to grow potted houseplants in garden compost, so one recommendation is apparently to use an inert substrate like coconut fibre, fertilised with organic liquid fertiliser like nettle tea.

So, on to the question: buying coconut coir bricks. Is that a healthy and sustainable thing to do? Or is there something terrible about them that I am missing?

  19. I bought three $1 succulents from the clearance section of a local big box store a few days ago, and today I potted them all and found they're in excellent health...

so I'm going back at 10 pm on a Sunday to buy the entire rest of the clearance succulent rack.

I *am* taking questions at this time, primarily if the questions are "why are you so awesome," "how many succulents are there," and "are you going to name them."

  20. Today's triumph. Condensed four pots into one, to make the winter move indoors easier. Seven different plants. Tradescantia, adder tongue, dracaena (those are the trunks sticking up, leaves at top not shown), lemon tree, ornamental oregano, false ginger, and I think cardamom but I might have grabbed the turmeric. Whew!

  21. Hey, #Plantstodon folks, would anyone know what this flowering vine is that has decided to start crawling over the bushes by my house? At first it looked like all it was doing was weighing the bushes down, but now it's burst into little white Xes.

Is it native to the Delaware Valley? Invasive? A pollenator? Likely to turn into doppelgangers of my neighbors?

  23. #PhotoOfTheDay Wild Strawberries.

Not WILD wild strawberries, but a cultivated variety.

I dumped some rootballs while digging up the veg garden, and they seem to like it here.
