Any recommendations for a good open #ebookreader? I have an oldish Kindle Paperwhite (from 2018) and it's software updates are a shining example of #enshitificaton and #plannedobsolesence. The interface is getting worse and I have less control over it then I did when I bought it. It is also annoyingly sluggish now (I assume newer models are fare better).

Plus a fully functioning BenQ beamer with HDMI input (so it's probably not that old).

Use: 2 months continously twice per day (about 120 uses total till product end life of the exchangable part)

Right: Random children's toothbrush
Material: 100% virgin plastic
Use: 1 month, every other day approx., once a day (about 15 uses total until end life)

If the #EU can ban plastic straws, it also can ban sh💩t like these plastic toothbrushes. When will there finally be strict regulation on #plannedobsolesence?

In the "Planned obsolescence is real" category. T/S my dead pen display last night found that a $0.20 dc-dc switching regulator failed and took out the board. This part is under rated for the current demand and will always fail with time. Cost of the right part is less than the incorrect one at $0.17. so its not about the cost of doing it right. Of course MFG does not sell the board that failed. #RightToRepair

The second #PS4 that I took in from the recycling yard last Saturday is working perfectly.
No repairs needed, just cleaned it.
Case had some cracks that I glued and are currently curing.

Agree 100%. Don't buy new cars but try to maintain and repair the old ones.

It wouldn't surprise us if manufacturers are trying to increase the number of #carAccidents again (from distraction) to exceed the number of accidents from #autonomousVehicles, to increase sales of the autonomous variety.

Apparently #selfDrivingVehicle accidents are already being suppressed, so the net gain for society is likely to be zero, with #plannedObsolesence boosting turnover and waste for good measure.
