As someone who HATES throwing out functional hardware for stupid software reasons, this news infuriates me, even though it doesn't surprise me. (We still have OpenBSD and NetBSD.)

Maybe I should start investing in one of the (free) BSDs as my next daily driver.

To clean:
- Bowl with warm water
- Add baking soda to the water
- Remove accessories like batteries
- Rub the soda water with your fingers
- Now and then clean surface with a rag that has no loose fibers (e.g. old t-shirt)
- Repeat last two steps

I wonder if a larger contributor to e-waste is irreplaceable batteries that peter out after a couple of years OR software vendors letting something as basic as SSL certificates expire without user-addressable avenues for replacement.

A few photos from this morning's dog walk, before the bike ride, and the camera which all of today's photos were taken with: A Kodak Z712IS from 2007.

I quite like the camera, but it's now been made obsolete because its software doesn't allow the date to be set past the end of 2025. I charged the battery just before the end of the year and all these photos have correct date and time because it can count its way into 2026, but as soon as the battery goes I will never be able to set the clock correctly again.

I've run an AOSP based on Android 15 on my Fairphone 4 for a long time, but installing custom OS's on phones is just extremely hard, and seeing @Fairphone being able to fulfill their promise of longevity for their products is just wonderful to see! This is a good sign that you can buy a Fairphone 6 today and expect it to last many years.
