  1. My favourite constellation Pleiades has now disappeared into the sunset haze which for me is a marker of the end of summer.

  5. And last is some #lunar literature.

#Moon observers Guide by Peter Grego is a must have book for observers of the moon. Very readable & contains lunar slices that show what will be on the #terminator each day.

The Moon Map is another item from my childhood & almost as old as the #Planisphere & purchased for the princely sum of £1.50!

This map taught me the lunar surface and I would pour over it for hours as a child, another #astronomy totem that has been everywhere with me

  6. Moving the #planisphere to after midnight I can see that the #moon, over on the ecliptic line in #Gemini is still to the east of the meridian but a lot higher (so more sky glow!) and Aries and Perseus are now in the prime observing area of my sky.

So this gives me a region of sky to consider when I turn to my more detailed star charts. But before I do that, given it won't be a #darksky evening I should have a look at #planets and see what options I have there too... #Astrodon

  7. It is a simple device, set time to date & there is your sky. Yes there are apps, but this requires no power, doesn't ruin your night vision and is very waterproof - essential in the damp #astronomy of the #UK

So here is the sky for about 9-10pm on Saturday, same as the sky at 3am end of August (fun #Planisphere fact).

This shows me Pegasus, Andromeda, Pisces & Cassiopeia look like good target constellations in the earlier part of the session...good altitude & away from the moon #Astrodon

  8. Right then after a real world break (aka work) back to #astronomy planning!

My next stage is to think about what will be where at what height and when. For this I use my oldest astronomy possession...my 37 year old #Planisphere.

8 year old me badgered his parents for one of these and in an age before the internet that meant trawling the bookshops of Hertfordshire. Eventually my long suffering Mum & Dad found one in Ware and this has been my constant astronomy companion ever since. #Astrodon
