I miss seeing more cultural posts on the #Fediverse. There are so many interesting people here, but what books are you reading? What films, shows, exhibitions, debates, or ideas have been making you think? If a place is part of the experience, where is it? It's a great way to discover new places and connect with people who share similar interests.
Last week I visited the Planetarium in Hamburg and it was awesome. I saw a children's presentation about the Solar System, a 3D journey through the universe, and enjoyed the view of the city from the top of the building. As a child, I wanted to become an astronomer, inspired by my father. I eventually studied particle physics instead, which turned out to be a fascinating path as well.
One thing I'm grateful for is that, as I get older, my understanding of the topics that interest me keeps growing. I've never lost the joy of learning, and I find it a little sad that so many people seem to.

Last week I visited the Planetarium in Hamburg and it was awesome. hey, if you're into #astrophotography or looking at the #Planetarium or interested in the Sky Survey talk at #emfcamp you should all go follow @ben_in_space who is VERY new to fedi and in a bubble of no-one right now and trying to figure out how it all works.
Ben is in Test Village where we and others will be attempting various types of sky photography during EMF, despite the weather forecast indicating that at this moment in time this is but a dream and we will in fact be doing nothing (final decision to be made just before we depart on Thursday morning - do we bring the telescopes or is it pointless as there's too much precipitation?)

If so, let me know... I can help you with the content requirements, and help you with formats, and also schedule time for your content.
The theme of EMF is Space... but the planetarium doesn't only have to show the usual stars and things, it's a 360 degree immersive experience and planetarium dome and we can show any content in it.
The usual ideas:
- Constellations (maybe presented in a new way?)
- Solar system and planets
- Milky way
New ideas you could make this weekend:
- What might it look like to be inside the core of the earth?
- What would a crazy space battle look like if you were in it? (pick your favourite game, figure out how to render it in the required format as a video)?
- What does cosmic goo look like if it were dripped on the dome and you're all actually inside a glass sphere watching it happen?
- Can you visualise global train and air transit from inside the globe? (watch the planes complete great circles above your head - and see the speed of Japanese trains compared to DB trains)
the Planetarium is open for ideas.
we will of course have family shows that are regular planetarium specialities, but we invite the demoscene and everyone else to make things for the dome.

I just learned of this group, which is pushing to establish a real #planetarium in #Toronto, somehow, at some point. Hopefully they'll be able to accomplish something. They don't seem to have a real plan for it. Yet.
Anyone know anything about them? I just put my name in as a potential volunteer.Background. Toronto used to have a real planetarium, the McLaughlin Planetarium, which seated 350 people. But the University of Toronto bought it with the intent of tearing it down.

- Focus 2026: la vita oltre la Terra ⇔ Molti programmi tematici di quest’anno ruotano attorno alle nuove scoperte sugli esopianeti abitabili e sulle missioni verso Europa ed Encelado. La domanda “siamo soli?” torna protagonista, ma con dati più freschi e suggestioni più audaci.

Perché i planetari sono ponti: tra scienza e immaginazione, tra passato e futuro, tra ciò che sappiamo e ciò che ancora non riusciamo a spiegare. Nel 2026, più che mai, diventano luoghi dove rallentare, alzare lo sguardo e ricordare che siamo parte di qualcosa di immensamente più grande.

Happy outcome of the #SolarEclipse 2026 dress rehearsal at the #planetarium in #Bochum, Germany, today: the whole event from beginning 14° high through maximum eclipse in 6° elevation down to 3° can be folllowed without obstruction from a specific - and covenient - zone on the premises. This picture was taken at the very 'moment' of maximum eclipse with the Sun in my back: whereever it's shining here, it could be seen. Not ideal for telescopes or big tripods, but many people with eclipse glasses and handheld cameras could be served. Only the weather on 12 August has to be as gorgeous as today ...

Grad komm ich frisch aus der Buchpräsentation von "Auf einen Kaffee im All" der drei Cosmic Latte Podcasterinnen Eva Freistetter, Elka Xharo und Jana Steuer. War ur leiwand, beeindruckt hat mich u. a. das Vorlesen einzelner Kapitel mit einer multimedialen Planetariumsshow zu verbinden. War sehr atmosphärisch.
