Just saw that Pizza Hut was sold to someone new. I looked up the details. Quick dive:
- 1958, started by Dan and Frank Carney from Wichita, Kansas, using a $600 loan from their mother.
- 1977, sold to PepsiCo ("Pepsi") for $300 million.
- 1997, PepsiCo spins off "Tricon Global Restaurants" to manage their 3 restaurant chains, KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut.
- 2002, Tricon renames itself as "Yum! Brands".
- 2026, Yum! Brands breaks Pizza Hut into two parts, and sells Pizza Hut in China to sister company Yum China Holdings for $1.2 billion.
- 2026, Yum! Brands sells the non-China Pizza Hut to Long Range Capital for $1.5 billion
- Yum! Brands says the sale will allow them to focus on their remaining fast food brands, such as KFC, Taco Bell, and The Habit Burger & Grill
- New owners, Long Range Capital, plan to exploit the nostalgia of 1980s and 1990s Pizza Hut brand, rebuilding the classic dine-in Pizza Hut restaurants with the checkered table cloths and red cups. #PizzaHut
