I am very fortunate ... during the summer I get to camp in a beautiful and quiet park full of trees and nature. However the trees can be a challenge for #astronomy / #astrophotography.
Here I've made the most of a gap in the trees. I believe the small red patch at the bottom is the Lagoon Nebula.

IC 1396A The Elephant Trunk nebula, located in the constellation of Cepheus, about 2,400 light years away.
This has been an elusive target for me, which I've attempted to image many times over the last few years, only to be disappointed because it is quite dim and either needs a LOT of integration (exposure) time, or imaging from a darker site than my backyard, to get a higher signal to noise ratio. This is the result of 8.3h from a Bortle 4 site.

A couple of recent targets I imaged and processed in PixInsight. NGC 7000 the North America Nebula, and NGC 6992 the Eastern Veil Nebula. Both captured using 2 different dual-narrowband filters, to get H-alpha, Sulphur-II and Oxygen-III wavelengths of light.

Astrophotography images are usually flat final images — but the stars in them are not all at the same distance.
My first PixInsight script, ParallaxStarLayers, uses GAIA data to create separate star layers by distance for parallax effects and animated presentations.

Editing was done in Pixinsight and GIMP, and I am wondering, how many people use Pixinsight here? What are your typical processing pipelines? Maybe we could exchange notes, I am a noob at Pix and would love to see how you edit your photos.

Today I've been integrating 270 exposures, 90s seconds each, for a total of 6h 45m, with darks, biases and flats.
First time, an hour in, there was a temporary power loss and I had to start from the beginning.
Second time, hour and a half in, Pixinsight process was killed because it used up the whole RAM and swap, and I had to start from the beginning.
I raised swap from 512MB to 64GB, and finally, the third time worked, it took more than two hours for WBPP to finish.

The other is a stack of 20 of these tracked images (with the tree tops cropped out). Can "push" the processing a lot more with the stack.

7-8hr data a couple of weeks ago - experimenting having reverted from NINA to Astroberry #opensource collimated the 8" 800mm Newt properly and testing the Altair Quadband filter. It's something, and I'm closer to knowing what I'll be shooting with next season...
