This pīwakawaka visitation thing is getting out of hand. I had my doors and windows open this morning and two of them flew through the house and into my lounge. They danced little circles around my head as I opened the sliding door.
As one left via the front door, the other one shot through the house and out the back door.
I feel like they're playing with me.

A pīwakawaka (fantail) graced me with its presence when I went out to the compost bin today. It flitted around the bin, possibly hunting little bugs stirred up on the compost. This is the only picture I managed to get of it. I also got several pictures of where the pīwakawaka had been a fraction of a second ago. 😂

Intrigued by the joint foraging behaviour of #pīwakawaka and #tauhou. Pīwakawaka work along the edge of and swoop out into an open area from perch to perch at a height of 2m or so; little groups of tauhou stay much more within foliage, but often move in parallel

Today's excitement: two #kahu swooping and diving at each other over urban Riccarton. Plus very active #pīwakawaka in the backyard, working along the insect buffet.

Every time we'd find a nice little patch of forest for a walk, there'd be a Piwa come join us. They watch to see if our feet kick up any bugs they can snack on. Lots of friendly Piwa on the island :)
