Today's small friend is from up the hill rather than my back yard, a seasonal visitor to this town: a gray catbird.
-
I may doubt the common sense of this red-bellied woodpecker, but I can't doubt its commitment to Sparkle Motion.
-
Today's small friends are a female red-bellied woodpecker and a male northern cardinal. The camera loves them both and so do I. ❤️
-
Today's small friend is a new species for the yard: a white-crowned sparrow, seen here presenting said crown for inspection.
-
Bonus bird: this adorable female house finch.

Today's small friend is the American goldfinch, brought to you by the letters "Y", "E", "L", "O", and "W".
-
And here's an outtake where he showed his dinosaur side and lunged out of frame to attack a house sparrow who landed too close. 😅

Today's small friend is a welcome returning species, but a new individual: a male red-bellied woodpecker. Photographed here in two styles: contemplative and mlem.

Good morning! Today's small friends are a scruffy downy woodpecker, an extremely composed mourning dove, and a somewhat wet and disheveled bronzed grackle.
-
Good morning! Today's small friends are the robin and mockingbird who've been taking an unusually aggressive interest in the suet lately.

Good morning! Today's small friends are American goldfinches, brought to you by the number 2 and the color yellow. 💛
These are some of my favorite visitors to my yard at the moment.
-
Good morning! Today's small friends are this tired-looking American goldfinch in *almost* 100% complete summer fit and the house finch carefully insepcting his next bite.
-
Bonus small friend: a male northern cardinal at the finch feeder.
-
Last one for this morning. I think this house finch may have a future in modeling.

Today's small friends are this pileated woodpecker, who proved surprisingly difficult to photograph for a black, white, and red dinosaur as long as your arm 😂, but who I first spotted on the ground(!), and this black squirrel, who I did not know lived in Frick Park. 💜
