  1. Slow-moving flow of resin on a pine stump. I know, not especially exciting. Just testing my new camera's ability to do whites and blacks. #tree #resin #pinus #xylem #ricohgriiix #ricoh

  3. I'm using pine needles for paths at the community garden. Free, but I also love the look, the smell, and even the crunch they make as you walk on them. Reminds me of my grandmother's garden in Mattapoisett, MA. #peas #garden #gardening #allotment #pine #mulch #pinus

  5. Ladybirds !
When is too much of a Good Thing ... too much.

Apparently this is not unheard of and in this instance is caused by the (deep and long) local drought stressing the local pine plantations.

Yeah it is DRY here in the Hills too.

  7. Pinus wallichiana...a beautiful tree. There are so many variations of Pinus trees...i like them so much.

  8. There are an unquestionable number of weird and incomprehensible #Chinese “brand” and “product” names that are designed to avoid #copyright and #trademark infringement, but few that raise eyebrows (or other things) like Rattan’s new #ebike model; the #Pinus. Yes. The Pinus. The jokes write themselves, but it makes you wonder if anyone in #China has any interest in determining how various monikers will fly in other languages. Guess not! #tech #sfw #weird electrek.co/2024/06/20/rattans

  9. It is spring, so the landscape should be lush green with many flowers. However, this is not the case this year in Serra Gelada and its surroundings (#Alacant, #Valencia region, E #Spain) - Silent Spring 2.0 -

  11. Nice to see old #trees (#Pinus sylvestris) in Urbión mountains, #Soria, #Spain

In Spain, we have too many young trees and too few old trees!

  15. I didn't expect that the most surviving species after the #LaPalma volcano (#Canary Is) would be the #fig tree (#Ficus carica)! Their canopy (in green) emerge from ashes (most tree is below the ashes). #Pinus #canariensis in the background is not as healthy as the fig tree!.
About 1.5 years after the eruption

  17. In #Spain it is not very common to have #fires of >1000 ha at 1500-1900 m altitude. An example from last summer is the fire at Boca-de-Huergano (#Riaño, #León). Much of the fire affected a young plantation of #Pinus #uncinata (not native to the area; not sure why it was planted!) and #Betula. Betula individuals are now #resprouting, but most shrubs are not.

  19. Here's an #iNaturalist NZ observation I made today for ANZAC Day.

It's a Turkish Red Pine, a descendant from Gallipoli of the famous Lone Pine. It was planted in Akaroa in 2015 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli.

  23. Intraspecific variability of #serotiny in #Pinus #banksiana

Rear-edge populations (with low #fire frequency) are less serotinous & more variably than range-core #fireprone pops where serotiny is more uniformly high, by Pelletier et al besjournals.onlinelibrary.wile #JEcol

That is, results for Pinus banksiana (#boreal) are quite similar to those for P. #halepensis & P. #pinaster (#mediterranean species).

  24. Estimating the age of #mediterranean #pines & their #cones is tricky, as they often produce more than 1 whorl per year!

Pic: #Pinus halepensis. From the bottom upwards: 🔵 arrows: 1st whorl of a growing season; 🔴 & 🟢 arrows: 2nd & 3rd whorl of the same year. Note the #serotinous (closed) #cones in the left pic.
