  1. New updates from PineTab-V Gentoo

I was able to compile and run smoothly LibreOffice and NetSurf on PineTab-V!

These are great news! Gentoo's support for RISC-V is super magnificent!

    Cheers,
    André Machado

  2. [1/2]

Final take for PineTab-V for this experiment with Gentoo.

No web browser seems to compile, there's an error due to RISC-V architecture.
CPU is not fully optimized for this Tablet, since it is an experimental Tablet, there's plenty of room to improve it and enable hardware accelaration on Mesa.
Core GNOME applications work out of the box, if you want a tablet for office operations this is a great Tablet for it.

  3. Pinetab-v updates to you people.

Still compilling with a lot of warnings but still good, that's webkit-gtk a large alternative Web Engine.

I've tested Gnome and is really nice but needs some features to be polished.

Gentoo is very solid and one of the only ones to have an excellent risc-v support.

PS: I couldn't upload the tablet compilling video

    Best Regards,
    André Machado

  4. Whelp. I don't know Python from Bash, yet here I am on the bleeding edge with my brand-new PineTab-V, the world's first tablet running on a RISC-V chip. Surely I am not the only person on Mastodon with one, but I am having trouble finding any sort of community online for this tablet. It runs a flavor of Debian made by StarFive just for this chip. It comes with LibreOffice, Firefox, and VLC preinstalled, but that's about it. If you have one, I'd love to hear from you. #PineTabV#RISCV

  5. Pine64’s RISC-V tablet now ships with a Debian-based Linux distro and improved hardware

The PineTab-V is a 10.1 inch tablet with a 1280 x 800 pixel IPS LCD display, 8GB of LPDDR4 memory, 128GB of eMMC storage, and a detachable keyboard with backlit keys.

What really makes it different from most tablets though is that it’s powered by a RISC-V processor rather than an ARM or x86 chip. Pine64 began selling the tablet to developers and early adopters in 2023, and now the company […]

  6. This time next week I'll be travelling to @fosdem but which laptop should I take?
My primary work one running Fedora Silverblue is the best, but the battery doesn't last more than about 15 minutes now
I have another two slower ones (i5-2520) but have better batteries
And there's the much lighter Lenovo Yoga C630 (Snapdragon aarch64 with touchscreen) running Windows ... But it can be charged from a portable power bank
I'd like to have just the tablet , but probably not practical.

  7. Question for any Pinetab2 users. Has Anybody found any glass screen protectors that fit the tablets screen?

  8. Many months later and I've finally found the special USB-UART for my @PINE64 ... Not where I expected it to be and it was in a very blank white box that it came in so wasn't obvious what was inside it ...

  9. I just pushed some big updates to my and plasma images. If you are already running and want to upgrade please see the release notes here: github.com/Fishwaldo/meta-pine

  10. @Fishwaldo Nice - I've got deezer streaming in firefox on with the internal speakers :-D Good so far (Well ok the speakers aren't great quality, but the software seems good  😜)

  11. Another Week - Another new image for (and ) - Kernel Version Bumps, Package Bumps in this release. Also, last actual release for PtV for a while, as now the images can be upgraded via "apt upgrade" online.
Major Changes for PtV include sound (enable it in settings), a updated kernel version 5.15.127 with the latest Starfive Vendor patches, improved EMMC performance, and a few thousand additional packages available via apt!

    Grab it from github.com/Fishwaldo/meta-pine

  12. Currently building new images for the and . This is going to take a while, so I thought I’d take the dog for a walk, only to find him passed out like this!

  13. It's just occurred to me that my three "personal" computers (other than SBCs) are a really diverse and eclectic mix:
    - Lenovo X220 tablet (without a working touch screen) (i5 - x86-64 running Linux Mint)
    - Lenovo Yoga C630 (Snapdragon 850 aarch64 running Windows - although I've just seen github.com/aarch64-laptops/deb ... Hmmm)
    - tablet (RISC-V JH7110)

  14. For those using my plasma images for - new images have just been uploaded fixing charger and power issues, touchpad and a few other things. Grab the latest image here: pine64.my-ho.st:8443/pinetabv/ (GitHub has more details on the changes)

  15. So the @PINE64 now has a fundamentally functional - with some caveats - usable desktop boot image. Touch screen and WiFi are good. Git and Firefox work. And here's a photo of it running Node.js v20.5.1 and an early access build of 21 😁😍
Credit to @Fishwaldo for getting this KDE Plasma image available!

  16. My KDE Plasma Image for the is now available for testing. Still lots to fix up but this has full GPU desktop acceleration, and feels responsive, even running from a SD card. Check wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PineTab-v for details. @PINE64 @pine64eu

  17. The @PINE64 is real and in my hands! Nice keyboard case with touchpad too. Hope I can get some time to play with it properly so it isn't just a door stop, although it came with a kennel installed on it which is more than I had expected 😁
