Interestingly, one of my USB PD trigger boards will happily switch up to 20 volts on this adapter with the same USB cable I used with my #Pinecil. I'm not sure what's stopping the Pinecil going higher then - any ideas?

I am hard choosing #Pinecil or Alientek T90A.
They are ≈ $54.5, $51.5, with 3 tips respectively.
T90A has c210 tips(seem to be cheaper) It has a cylindrical cap for the tip, so it is safe to carry.
Also comes with USB C cable.But Pinecil v2 is OSHW, FLOSS.
I will be doing probably some modules, PCB, perfboard, not thick wires soldering. Occasional micro soldering to hack devices.
T90 has N32L403 MCU.
Maybe it is an opportunity for me to develop :rust: PAC and HAL for this MCU.
There are official datashits and C code.
Also community made iron schematic.But this will take a lot of time, I am already kind of busy with school, robotics, math. Reverse Engineering is addictive.
What would you choose in my place?

I've not soldered any headers on myself - while I do have some that are separate all the ones I've used with the connectors have been presoldered (so far)Related: I do have a soldering iron but I keep thinking about ordering a #pinecil from Pine64 ... For no other reason than it's processor is #RISCV and it's geeky!

In case someone else owns a #Bosch #Series6 battery vacuum cleaner (wouldn't buy it again) and the brush stops spinning: In my case it was the connection directly on motor. The leg of a fuse, soldered in between cable and motor, had broken...
Definitely cheaper to solder that on again than to buy a new brush (EB1T, #EB1T) for 40-70 €.And a chance to show off the mobile soldering solution with an Einhell battery, a #SW3515 and a #pinecil. 😅😎

Ach, was den #Pinecil-Lötkolben angeht: Da gibt es -trotz Fachfremdheit- durchaus augenoptische Wertschöpfung.
Sollte ich nachher etwas Zeit haben, belege ich mal rechnerisch, warum #Augenoptiker*Innen und der Hersteller des Gadgets „best friends forever“ 🫶 sind.
Alles mit leichter Mathematik nachvollziehbar und Falsifizierbar ☝️

Thought I'd give a quick glance of the #Pine64 blog to see what's been going on. Pleasantly surprised to read this:

I actually welcome the discontinuation of #PinePhonePro, it's better if devs just focus on one affordable platform. And yeah, maybe not launching a bunch of new products when the existing ones still need more testing and/or have known defects would have helped. But I'm not buying anything new from them until I can be sure that their priorities are right. Right now I'm happier just not having any smartphone at all and will probably buy a cheap dumb soldering iron to replace/repair my #Pinecil that no longer works with USB-C. -

For anyone who buys a #Pinecil and thinks, you know what, for a few extra bucks a clear case for this thing will look cool - you'll want this teardown from #iFixit: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Pinecil+V2+Teardown/170774
The official instructions (https://wiki.pine64.org/images/0/01/Pinecil_Shell_Replacement_Guide.pdf) do not actually explain how to snap the case apart, but the iFixit guide suggests levering the halves apart by sticking a small screwdriver into the soldering tip hole.
Practice snapping the new shell open first, to get an idea for how it should feel.

A Pinecil with multiple accessories purchased directly will cost way less than buying one already in Australia, although you will wait weeks and weeks for it to ship and arrive.

I've got 2 working #pinephone one is mint and the other has a chipped piece of glass missing on the bottom corner, covered with paper and super glue. Both work perfectly. The #pinetab2 which needs to be opened up and the LCD plugged in. A mint #pinetime a 1st gen #pinepower a 1st gen #pinecil
Also have the wireless charging backplate for the Pinephone and some random watch bands/straps.
$225 takes it all. -
Oh, BTW:
Instead of ordering an expensive iFixit soldering iron that I'll never use I now ordered a cheap "Pinecil" soldering iron that's fully open hardware and has been recommended to me.
So, yeah, yet another rod that can get hot that I won't used, but it's nerdy and open-hardware, so, that's awesome, right? 😁
