@Pikapods they often think that #SelfHosting means "host it at home" while providers like #PikaPods allow simple setup, not #LAN #NAT considerations, and more resilience 😁

@screatius I'm currently still using Listmonk because I had some campaigns to send this month for an upcoming event, and couldn't be bothered to set up a new platform in a rush. I used some of my Railway credits to upgrade to a higher plan so that I could send the emails out this month. That said, it's a short-term, temporary solution. I still intend to migrate to Pikapods in the future.
I saw that #Pikapods just added #Mautic as an option, so I'll give that a try as well at some point.

I really love @navidrome
Thanks to @Pikapods I was able to set up a test instance in just a few minutes.
It's so easy to use that my “test instance” now has 300 albums on it, all for less than $4 a month.

$50 for hosting open source software? That’s too much for many developers.

Looks like #Pikapods has a new #Todoist alternative, #Vikunja. Have been wanting a self-hosted task manager for ages, might check it out.
Although I have moved a lot of my stuff off of Pikapods to my own VPS or home server, I still like being able to try things easily via Pikapods without the struggle of initial setup.

The US is reportedly directing diplomats to fight data sovereignty initiatives globally. This highlights the friction between centralized Big Tech interests and the push for local data control.
Using open-source apps is a direct way to exercise your right to data sovereignty. You choose where your data lives.

@irkan I'm on my way to more #SelfHosting (#synology , tried a bit of #hetzner #VPS , ...), I just discovered #PikaPods and I am stunned. Zero config on your side, works smoothly, prices are reasonable... I recopmznd that road unless you really wish to minimize long term costs or want to get your hands dirty 😉

I don't know if it's a #selfhosting #IT topic or a #psy #OCD #burnout topic.
I don't know if it's a call for help or if I just need to dump this here.First, I'm very glad that I could totally leave the #GAFAMs! Yes, they make your digital life apparently easier, but the price to pay is IMHO far, far too high. I despise them!
My #selfhost setup is driving me nuts: #VPN, online services, I can't decide if I'm happy with my #Synology #NAS hosting (backed up on SYnology C2), if I need a #VPS (my attempts showed that maintenance is high) or an assisted hosting service (like #PikaPods which sounds great). Availability of online services would be higher.

Looking for advice on a #cloud / #selfhosting setup, especially with cost in mind.
Right now I’m weighing:
1) #pikapods (managed, simple, monthly fee, privacy?)
2) Self-hosted #nextcloud on a small home server (higher upfront cost, more control, more maintenance)I’m curious about:
- Long-term costs
- reliability / backups
- time & maintenance overhead
- Privacy and data ownership (I'm in the Eu)Are there other good options I should consider? VPS + Nextcloud? Hosted alternatives? Something lighter than Nextcloud?

The next best option for hosting Listmonk is, of course, #Pikapods. My current usage and credits on Railway meant I wasn't being charged for my Listmonk deployment, but moving to Pikapods meant an ongoing charge of USD$1.5/month. It's not the wildest expense, but it did make me question whether it might be worth it to try something else.
Today, I went to alternativeto.com to see if new FOSS alternatives to listmonk had popped up, and I learned about three:
1. Notifuse
2. Kling
3. Plunk -

I've been really enjoying working with a VPS I set up through Hetzner.
My self-hosting journey so far has been:
* Pikapods
* VPS through Hetzner, so far for personal website and a few lighter services (FreshRSS)Immich (for photos) is still on Pikapods.
I'm thinking about using an old Mac Mini I have lying around unused as a home server, and moving Immich and most other services there, keeping the website via VPS.
Has anyone repurposed a Mac Mini as a home server? This is new territory for me. I'd happily hear any advice/considerations.

My PikaPod is stuck loading. Feeling like I'm waiting centuries for the service to start up! It's the little IT moments that test your patience the most.

It looks like the issue has already been fixed. But I guess I need to wait for Pikapods to pull that update.
This is the only challenge with running a service like this via #Pikapods -- you can't force an update.
Now that I've gotten fairly comfortable with my VPS, I wonder if I should plan to move my Immich instance?
(I'm running my VPS through Hetzner. Wonder what tier I'd need to bump my resources to, to handle Immich? I don't have a ton of photos there now, but planning to migrate my Google Photos account to Immich soon -- which would be a lot.)
