Tioga overlook/Lee Vining canyon on July 13, just below Ellery Dam, elev 9400 feet, 72 degrees. Taken a couple hours after the lower CA120 gate was opened, allowing access up to Yosemite's east gate (the latter gate is still closed, btw).
Mono Craters backdropped by White Mountain range in the distance. Slight pall from #PikaFire drift smoke.
Massive, melting slabs of snow, water, and waterfalls everywhere. So life-affirming one could barely deal.

It's possible Death Valley might hit close to 130 degrees today & Sunday.
We canceled a side trip to #Manzanar because it's supposed to reach 108 in the Owens Valley today & tomorrow.
Here, near the n. shore of Mono Lake, it's only going to be 95 today. Flies are swarming around the sagebrush, but at least it's too hot for no-see-ums. The bugs, heat, glare, & dust (& smoke from the #PikaFire on the NE side of Yosemite) are impressive, & enervating. And snowmelt is everywhere. #cawx #cawater
