  1. Some of my regular birds at home this morning.

One of the pair of Pied Currawongs that get sultanas from the back veranda.

The female King Parrot, stopping by to see if I've put seed out (I had).

And a Lewin's Honeyeater, in the vines on the Cocos Palm about to check out the fruit (out of frame above it).

  2. Low clouds this morning in the mountains, bit that didn't stop a collection of birds turning up as soon as I stepped on the veranda.

They wanted food, but I don't have any.

Also, look how wide a kookaburra can open its beak!

  7. We had some hopeful visitors this afternoon. They were looking for free food, but we didn't have anything appropriate (bugs, skinks, small snakes).

  12. Damp birds in my backyard.

One of the pair of Pied Currawongs that hang around for treats (the occasional sultana), and a Lewin's Honeyeater who had clearly popped down to the creek for a bath.

  13. Today's birds on campus are decidedly spring-themed.

We have a trio of Pied Currawong fledglings.
A parent Masked Lapwing dutifully sitting on eggs.
A Grey Butcherbird fledgling excitedly calling for food as its parent turns up to feed it.
And not following the theme, a Buff-banded Rail on the edge of the lake.

  14. One of my resident Pied Currawongs, sitting on the bird perch in the backyard, looking decidedly damp.

I took pity on it and put some sultanas out on the feeder.

  15. Portrait of one of my regular Pied Currawong visitors.
This is the older one, and has learnt to call for sultanas in the morning, even said "thankyou" once.

  16. And the last to birds on the list, one of the pair of #PiedCurrawong that live in my backyard and pop in for sultanas every now and then, and a #TorresianCrow up in a tree over the creek.

  17. This is the juvenile Pied Currawong the adults in the group are trying to protect.

It is unlikely the Brown Goshawk would take on a bird this size for food, but clearly this one thinks it is game.

  18. And this is one of my mates that comes to visit every day at home, pictured here waiting for me to go upstairs and fetch some sultanas.

It is a Pied Currawong. They predominantly eat fruit, but will happily hunt for bugs too.

  19. Our friendly magpie was back today, foraging for worms and bugs in the backyard, with a new friend, a Pied Currawong.

They seemed to get along ok together.

  20. A few birds spotted from the veranda this morning in the space of about 10 mins.

One of our usual Pied Currawongs, who was being attacked by Bell Miners (the yellowy bird on the wire). A male Satin Bowerbird way off on top of a palm tree, and the male King Parrot that has been visiting recently.

  21. Today's veranda birds. First up was the cockatoo, trying to look cute in order to elicit seed (it didn't work).

Then came the Currawong, grabbing some seed later in the day, and finally the King Parrots arrived (and did get seed refills).
