Let’s end #DarkMatterDay with a video of a single bubble nucleating in a #PICO40L dark matter bubble chamber. This is precisely the kind of behaviour that would result from #DarkMatter interacting with a detector like this. You expect a single, low-energy interaction nucleating a lone, isolated bubble.

This is why it’s so critical to construct these with low radioisotope contamination, put the experiment deep underground, and still shield the hell out of it.

Had an awesome time in the underground laboratory @SNOLAB today! Very pleased to be able to support our colleagues at #BoulbyLab as they engage with us about planning for laboratories as they evolve. As always, members of our laboratory team delighted us with art and our friends at Boulby with warm welcomes!

I was grateful to be able to spend time in the lab after the tour concluded so I could understand some things about the #PICO40L detector.

Excited to finally get to work in the underground laboratory @SNOLAB today. The lab was closed for a mine summer maintenance period, but when it reopened I was sick for two weeks (cage travel when congested is a big no no), then travelled a bunch and/or got stuck on surface in management meetings.

I get to help today with a visit from #BoulbyLab colleagues and otherwise will support #PICO40L.
