Я играю на пианино с детства. Классика, саундтреки, импровизации – репертуар меняется, но привычка спонтанно сесть за клавиши остается. Лучший способ отдохнуть, переключить голову после сложной работы или вообще просто так! На моей домашней рабочей станции установлен профессиональный синтезатор фортепиано Pianoteq от Modartt — он полностью меня устраивает: не только реалистичностью звучания, но и возможностью экспериментировать со звуком. Достаточно давно я собрал умную дачу на базе ПЛК под Linux и даже написал об этом статью . Контроллер исправно управляет освещением, водоснабжением и отоплением. Потом я прочитал статью о запуске Doom на этом контроллере и задумался: смогу ли приспособить его под свое хобби? Получится ли играть на даче не хуже, чем дома? Doom — задача хоть и культовая, но все-таки относительно простая. А справится ли контроллер с real-time-синтезом аудио? Здесь недостаточно просто воспроизводить заранее записанный звук — нужно в реальном времени рассчитывать его по физической модели инструмента. Сборки Pianoteq существуют под разные архитектуры, но чаще всего его используют на студийных Mac и рабочих станциях — на сцене, в студиях и при работе над киномузыкой. Итак, для своего эксперимента я привез на дачу USB-ЦАП, MIDI-клавиатуру с педалью и подключил их к контроллеру…

Installed Linux MX on my 12 yo Lenovo Z500. After some tweaking, it records and playbacks just perfectly, at 96kHz and a still acceptable 8ms latency (4ms, if I would play 'normally').
My typical stress test (running ridiculously fast arpeggiators and changing params in real time) turned out so much fun, that it'll become my new project!

I am quite comfortably ensconced in the OS now, but I haven't gotten all my creature comforts dialed in, could use some pointers to the best current info source on a couple things.
First off, home manager, which as I understand it is how I setup my .bash* files and other personal user account stuff, but is there good five minute explainer or a quick start or something?
I tried to get it sorted early on but I was still befuddled by a lot of Nix stuff at the time so it became a "later" problem, but I'm tired of not having my bash_aliases.
Other one, I use #musnix to handle setting up RT kernel, as this laptop is where I currently run #Pianoteq, but you don't wanna be running RT all the time - I was doing it for a while and I noticed that my regular desktop apps would lock up periodically. And it's just hard on the CPU cause these apps are not tooled for realtime.
Anyways, what I would like, is to have the top two items on the version list when you boot, be the most recent non-RT build at the top, and the most recent RT build second. Is this doable?
If I could get both versions of the configuration.nix updated and compiled regardless of which I was currently running, that would be gravy, but I would be booting into RT and making sure everything works before any gigs or whatever.
Can this be done?

It took a little while but I did get another Linux Native VST demo out. This time an MKI Tremolo preset. I've started to include chapter markers to easily get to different registers and velocities.
This is a classic sound to me but I think I prefer the Rhodes MKI without tremolo.

I'm this close to selling a piano-playing friend on buying a #Zynthian.
They've been watching me play sounds off it during jams for a few months now and got curious.
They went to Long & McQuade last week and were unimpressed at the digital options available at the same price point as a Zynthian and a keyboard controller.
This is how we win.
(shoutout also to #pianoteq for providing solid piano sounds as well - even at halved sample rates on Zynthian, they sound great.)
