A 3,200-year-old wooden tomb at ancient Gordion in central Turkey is giving archaeologists new evidence about Phrygian burial customs, as well as their building and metalworking skills. 6. `During the second century AD, Claudius #Ptolemy described a 5-limit diatonic scale in his influential text on music theory #Harmonics, which he called "intense diatonic". Given ratios of string lengths 120, 112+1/2, 100, 90, 80, 75, 66+2/3, and 60, Ptolemy quantified the tuning of what would later be called the #Phrygian scale (equivalent to the major scale beginning and ending on the third note) – 16:15, 9:8, 10:9, 9:8, 16:15, 9:8, and 10:9. `

  7. Did you know that there was a #god that is claimed to be a previous version of Dionysios?

The #Phrygian people were nomads that settled in Anatolia. They brought their pantheon, including a god named Sabazios.

He was a god of #agriculture, teaching humans how to cultivate plants.
    His followers would #dance & get #drunk.

#Ancient #Greeks equated Sabazios to Dionysos.

It was said that Sabazios was ripped apart by #Titans & reassembled as the Greek god of #wine.

  10. Every #electronic #musician should have one song that is just, "Oops! All filter sweeps!" and this is mine. It's the favorite track of many people who have bothered to tell me they have a favorite track. It's spooky, because it's in E #Phrygian for you #musictheory nerds out there. And it's the track that introduces a major character (of sorts) in the enormous sprawling #sciencefiction backstory of my music. Have a listen! Give it a boost!

  11. Today's random thought turned hyper-focus: what would Twinkle Twinkle Little Star sound like in all 7 modes of the major scale? So here they are in all their weirdness. As expected, Locrian (the last one) is terrifying.

Oh and the image I made using #blender. It's a volumetric with a bunch of math nodes thrown at it.
