NiemanLab: Facing a “deluge” from AI, this publication will only take pitches by phone. “Whether you’re a reporter or an editor, your inbox has probably seen an influx of pitches, increasingly written with artificial intelligence. They’re likely bad, irrelevant, and annoyingly clogging up your email. But one publication is over it. If you want to write for The Food Section, you’ll […]

https://www.dw.com/en/us-iran-talks-in-switzerland/live-77641405. The thing about roadmaps is that the people driving can either follow the directions to their destinations - or ignore them. With #Netanyahu still bombing #Lebanon, & #Trump launching expletive-laden #phonecalls & #socialmedia posts threatening #Iran with yet more #bombing, #peace seems very much less than secure, #roadmap or no roadmap.

How-To Geek: Google just made it way harder for scammers to trick Android users. “One of the worst things about the explosion of AI tools is how much more advanced scam calls have become. It’s now entirely possible to get fake calls with voices that sound exactly like people you know. The June Android drop is here to address this (and add some other goodies).”

I've got a Google Pixel 10 Pro XL with GrapheneOS.
I don't get many regular phone calls, but when I do, I always seems to reject them by misstake when I take the phone out of my pocket.
Is there any way to change the behaviour of the call answering screen?

The local newspaper has an article online warning people against silent calls where you are called by an unknown number/caller and noone says anything. They warn to say anything as everything you say might be used to train an AI to imitate your voice.
They also warn to use the word "yes" in calls with unknown callers as they might use this out of context and try to sell you something.
I would love I could say this is exaggerating. But truly, I'm not sure and I can't.

When you’re expecting a telephone appointment call (drs/vet etc) and you answer the call, they say ‘this is whoever, from wherever.’ What do you say?
I usually just say something along the lines of, oh yes, hello (ask how they are if they asked me.) But there tone always feels like I’ve done something wrong. or unexpected.

People, please - you can't trust the calling number displays anymore.
Scammers just generate random numbers these days, so if you're calling back unknown callers that you "just missed" you're getting people who didn't call you.
You can't convince them that they just called you, cuz they didn't.
Getting lots of these babes-in-the-woods calls lately. "Hello you just called me!?"
